SELF-STUDY AT THE GEORGIA AQUARIUM Visit the Georgia Aquarium in Atlanta. Walk all the exhibits and seek out the invertebrates. It won’t be easy in some exhibits, so think and look carefully. Record in your journal the following: Make a list of invertebrates found by exhibit. This may include remains or traces of invertebrates as well as living specimens. There is very little interpretive signage at the Aquarium, so identify as best as possible or make drawings and descriptions. For those invertebrates in the “Georgia Explorer” exhibit, you can use the identification keys in the lab back at KSU. Make extensive notes and drawings on at least eight different invertebrates at the Aquarium. Include such information as behaviors, preference for subhabitats within the exhibit, associations/interactions with other organisms, color, morphology, etc. In a synthesis, you should compare invertebrates (in terms of morphology, behavior, coloration, etc.): o among the exhibits (i.e. habitats) at the aquarium o among those at the aquarium with those that were collected on the Georgia coast by our class. o among the communities in the exhibits with what you might expect or know about these organisms in their natural environment. For the marine portion of the course, you must still include in the laboratory section of your journal the observations made in lab of the specimens that we bring back from the coast. Tape or glue you ticket from the aquarium in your journal before turning it in. http://www.georgiaaquarium.org/
