Job Posting Title IRC42669 Job Title Technical Officer 1 (Groundwater & Contaminated Land) Organization Name Brief Description This is an exciting opportunity for a Contaminant Hydrogeologist to join the Groundwater and Contaminated Land Team in Brampton (Anglian), to provide technical support to internal teams, local authorities, land owners and developers with respect to land and groundwater protection and improvement. Position Specific Information Your main duties will comprise; commenting on planning applications and other submissions with potential groundwater and contaminated land impacts to ensure minimal impact to the environment from development. This work takes a risk-based approach and is in line with the Environment Agency’s role as statutory consultee to local planning authorities. Work area include strategic plans, development consultations, site investigations, remediation and the promotion of Environment Agency ideals through best practice and guidance; effective liaison and communication with planning officers (internal and local authority); the preparation and discharge of planning conditions; and reviewing of remediated sites including monitoring data to assess when sites can be considered as no longer posing a significant risk to Controlled Waters. To provide this technical expertise, you will need to have; a degree in a Geoscience related subject and prior experience of contaminated land and groundwater quality and protection, as well as town and country planning. You must be able to understand geological maps, plans and borehole logs develop sub-surface conceptual models and you will be able to use Arc GIS. Principal Accountabilities Analyse, interpret and prepare reports on technical scientific data, providing good quality information to the relevant teams, to support their decisions and to help them to protect the environment. Investigate and comment on referred planning applications, providing a technical response to planning authorities, developers and environment management team in line with current Environment Agency policy, to influence and promote sustainable development. Advise, comment and recommend appropriate action on projects, plans and mitigation schemes within the area to improve habitats and restore environmental quality. Co-ordinate and develop environmental improvements plans, in accordance with national legislation and policies to ensure the Environment Agency is compliant.
