Students should then be able to have time to then brainstorm ideas for their ride and start their inventive ride. Teaching Resources Needed to Support the Lesson: For Resources, I will need the following: Examples of Matisse’s work that I will show from my laptop, Examples of inventive rides that I will show from my laptop, Ooglie Googlies book, and my own example of the project. Art Materials Necessary for the Lesson: Construction paper, markers, googly eyes, Elmer’s glue, hot glue, scissors, box for diorama, pipe cleaners, and masking tape. Teacher Activities Introduction: -Read Ooglie Googlie story aloud. -Tell students that they will be making their own Ooglie Googlies and making an amusement park for them. -Explain that they will be making their amusement park in the style of Matisse. - Show examples of Matisse’s artwork. Development: 2. Show examples of Ooglie Googlies and rides. 3. Give instructions on how to make ooglie googlies. 4. Pass out materials for Ooglie Googlies: construction paper, glue, and markers. 5. Assist students as they create ooglie Googlies, show different types of line making. 6. As ooglie googlies are completed, I will glue1-2 eyes on each one with hot glue. 7. I will let students share Ooglie Googlies with one another. 8. Help students brainstorm ideas for ride inventions. 9. Start the amusement park diorama, see part two for directions. 10. Clean up while concluding assignment. Students assemble and draw on Ooglies Googlies; students learn different types of line making. 6. Students individually come to me as I glue their eye(s) on their Ooglie Googlies with hot glue. 7. Students share ooglie googlies with one another. 8. Students will start to brainstorm/start to build their rides. 9. Students will start building their ride for the Amusement park. 10. Students work together to clean up. Conclusion: Ask students the different types of lines they used on their Ooglie Goolies. Ask the students what they learned about Matisse (for amusement park assignment). Let students share their Ooglie Googlies and ideas for their rides. Critical Comments and Reflections: Next time I teach this lesson I want to put the book away after the introduction, unless a student finishes early. I found that leaving the book out during the lesson proved to be a distraction. The book was still successful in getting the students excited to make their Ooglie Googlies. They worked quickly through the lesson and all of the students were in a hurry to get their googlie eyes glued on. Next time I want to use two hot glue guns so that my helper and myself can both glue the eyes on. This way there will be less kids standing around in the future.
