FTA CARDS
FTA technology is a revolutionary tool for the simplified collection, purification, archiving and
analysis of pure DNA and RNA in whole blood and buccal cells/saliva. FTA cards are composed of a
sophisticated filtration matrix impregnated with a patented formulation of powerful protein
denaturants, a chelating agent, and a free-radical trap designed to protect and entrap nucleic acids. It is
non-toxic to humans yet prevents the growth of bacteria and other microorganisms. FTA Cards also
rapidly inactivate organisms such as blood borne pathogens and therefore offer user safety. FTA
technology maintains the integrity of the nucleic acids contained in the specimen from nucleases,
oxidation, and UV damage. FTA cards permit the collected specimens to be stored at room
temperature without degradation for up to 14 years of documented data (as of 2005). This unique
feature enables the user to purify nucleic acids from samples at their convenience. In addition to being

PROTECTIVE SWAB SLEEVES
The Protective Swab Sleeve was designed to allow maximum protection against contamination of
swabs used for serological evidence collection while at the same time allowing the swabs to air dry in

SWAB BOX
Our Swab Box was designed to hold and protect a cotton tipped swab that has been used to collect
body fluids. The swab boxes are constructed from heavyweight cardboard, commonly called
chipboard, with a glazed white surface and no printing on the exterior. These boxes feature two foldup tabs on the interior that hold the shaft and tip of the swab away from the walls of the box in order to
prevent contamination or loss of the sample. Vent holes are provided in both ends of the boxes to
assist in drying the swab. The boxes are shipped and stored flat and unfolded. In use, the tabs are first
folded upright, the swab shaft threaded through the holes in the tabs, and the box folded along the prescored lines. Locking tabs and ends secure the box into a rigid shape for labeling and storage.

BLUESTAR
Bluestar is an extremely sensitive presumptive field test for blood which offers several advantages over
a classic luminol mixture: the luminescence intensity is higher, it lasts longer, and it does not
necessitate total darkness to be visible. Treatment with Bluestar does not prevent reliable DNA typing
(high frequency). Bluestar Magnum is a more concentrated form of Bluestar and is not recommended
for routine crime scenes. Bluestar Magnum should be used when circumstances suggest the evidence
was washed, removed from water, or if blood has been diluted to the point of being undetectable using

FLUORESCEIN
Fluorescin is an extremely useful reagent for the enhancement of suspected bloodstains, particularly on
multi-colored backgrounds. Fluorescin is converted by the catalytic action of hemoglobin into
Fluorescein, a bright yellow fluorescent chemical. After application by spraying, Fluorescein-treated
bloodstains are visualized with UV light and will remain fluorescent for 15-30 minutes and allow
additional time for the stain or pattern to be photographically documented. This new solvent-based
formulation of Fluorescein is stable and is far less hazardous than previously available aqueous
formulations or Luminol. Fluorescein can be used in twilight-type conditions and, unlike Luminol,
stains treated with Fluorescein can be tested for DNA.

LUMINOL REAGENT
Luminol is a well-known and widely used method for the visualization of blood stains. This highly
sensitive technique is commonly utilized to locate very dilute blood or areas where attempts have been
made to wash away the blood and to visualize previously invisible bloody footwear impressions at
crime scenes. In the past, Luminol has been problematic to use at crime scenes because of the tedious
measuring and mixing required. We offer a premixed and premeasured formulation for Luminol that
removes the hassle. Just take one vial of the Luminol reagent, add to water, shake gently, and spray
the suspected area with a pump sprayer or spray head.

CHEMICALS TO ENHANCE BLOODY PRINTS
Numerous methods of staining are used to develop or enhance blood-contaminated latent prints. These
methods depend on staining the protein components of blood to form a more visible impression,
commonly a dark blue or black. Among these methods are Amido Black, LeucoCrystal Violet,
Coomassie Blue, and Acid Fuchsin. Amido Black has also been used to develop and enhance footwear
and tire track impressions. Acid Yellow 7 stain is one of the newer and more effective fluorescent
stains used to enhance bloody footwear and fingerprint impressions on non-porous surfaces. Staining
reveals a yellowish-colored print which fluoresces under blue-green light (400-490 nm). When lifted
with a white gelatin lifter, the impression will often reveal enhanced fluorescence. Available as readyto-use premixed liquid stains and destains.

Within a few minutes, this test will confirm if the blood is human or not. Hexagon OBTI is designed
as a two part test with collection bottles (tubes) for the blood sample and test bars. A blood sample is
transferred into a bottle which contains a transport medium. This mixture is added drop by drop to the
test bar. Human hemoglobin (hHb) in the sample reacts with reagent consisting of blue colored
particles and monoclonal anti-human Hb antibodies. The immunocomplex migrates to the test zone
where it is captured by an immobilized second antibody directed against hHb forming a blue test line
to indicate a positive result. Unreacted reagents migrate further and are bound in a second line by
immobilized IgC antibodies. The control line indicates proper function and correct handling of the

PRESUMPTIVE BLOOD TESTS
HEME-STIX
Heme-Stix were developed to provide the investigator with a fast, convenient, sensitive, and reliable
presumptive test to identify blood on the crime scene. Each test is a compact, self-contained system
consisting of two glass ampoules inside a plastic tube approximately the size of a cigarette. These tests
are similar to the well-known tube tests commonly seen in drug field testing. A positive presumptive

The Phenolphthalein Presumptive Blood Test is one of the most commonly used tests in the field and
in the forensic laboratory to indicate the presence of blood. Phenolphthalein tests are particularly
useful in the field to determine if that reddish-brown stain is blood or not and whether it is evidence
that needs to be collected or ignored. Phenolphthalein tests are available as a single use pouch style or
the traditional 3 part kit.
The pouch style Phenolphthalein based field test consists of a heavy gauge plastic bag containing three
plastic-sleeved crush vials holding premeasured reagents. To use, place a small quantity of the stained
material or a portion of a swabbing of the stain into the plastic bag, sequentially crush the color-coded
vials, and observe the color change which develops. Having a truly portable test which fits into a shirt
pocket removes the necessity of measuring, mixing, and storing reagents in the field which may leak or
break. The sealed vials provide long shelf life without refrigeration and enable them to be kept in field
crime scene kits. The premeasured reagents in sealed glass vials provide for ease of use and reliable
results. You will always know how many tests can be performed with the tests on hand and a color
change in the vials will indicate when they have expired.

Sero-Stix provide a fast and easy presumptive test for blood. Each Sero-Stix consists of a stiff plastic
strip with an absorptive patch on one end that contains the test reagents. This test is based upon the
pseudoperoxidase action of hemoglobin which catalyzes the reaction of Tetramethyl-benzedine and
organic peroxide. The patch will turn a dark blue color when the water moistened patched end is
rubbed onto a stain that contains blood. The patched end can also be rubbed on a dry stain and then
add a drop of water. Although not as sensitive or specific as the Phenolphthalein, Heme-Stix, or OTolidine, Sero-Stix provide an additional alternative to these tests. Sero-Stix come in a vial of 100

PRESUMPTIVE FIELD TEST FOR SEMINAL FLUID
When searching scenes or collecting evidence, it is often helpful to perform a presumptive test for the
presence of semen upon those stains that fluoresce under UV light. Prostatic Acid Phosphatase is an
enzyme produced in the prostate gland of males and is found in semen in a much higher level than any
other body fluid.
The Presumptive Field Test for Seminal Fluid is very easy to perform. All the reagents are sealed in
glass crush ampoules and then packaged in a disposable applicator. To perform the test, first transfer
part of the suspected stain to the provided transfer paper with sterile water contained in the first vial,

then squeeze the second applicator to crush the glass ampoule inside. Shake the applicator for a few

TMP PRESUMPTIVE TEST FOR SEMINAL FLUID
The TMP (thymophthalein monophosphate) Presumptive Test for Seminal Fluid was designed to
provide a convenient and reliable laboratory test for the presumptive presence of Acid Phosphatase.
Although the TMP Test is more sensitive to the presence of Acid Phosphatase than other presumptive
tests, it is much more temperature sensitive and has a very short shelf-life if stored above room
temperature. It is, therefore, not recommended as a field test. The TMP Test is very easy to perform.
All the reagents are contained in dropper bottles. To perform the test, first transfer part of the
suspected stain to the provided transfer paper or to a cotton tipped swab with sterile water. Add a drop
or two of the TMP Reagent to the transferred stain and allow to react for 1-3 minutes. Next add a drop
or two of the Color Developer Reagent to the transferred stain. A positive result for the presumptive
presence of acid phosphatase (semen) is indicated by a blue color.

Small Particle Reagent (SPR) is a well-known and utilized technique to develop latent prints on difficult
surfaces such as wet surfaces (cold drink cans or automobiles with dew), oily surfaces, or textured
surfaces. To use, mix the contents of an SPR vial, either white or black, into 6 ounces of water. Mix these
vigorously in the mixing bottle and pour into spray bottle. While keeping the mix well shaken, spray the
surface with a gentle misting spray. The SPR will stick to the prints. Gently mist the area with our SPR
Rinse Solution or clean water from another spray bottle to wash away the excess SPR. The prints can now
be easily photographed. Prints can usually be lifted in the conventional manner after letting the surface

Pressure sensitive adhesives are commonly found on many types of tapes, labels, and self-adhesive
postage stamps. In the past, it has been difficult to remove these from surfaces in order to process for
latent prints with crystal violet or adhesive-side powders. It has been particularly difficult to successfully
untangle tape “balls” while maintaining the integrity of latents that may be on the adhesive side. Un-Stix
was specifically formulated to easily loosen the adhesive on tapes, stamps, and labels without damaging
any latents which may be present. Simply put a few drops of Un-Stix on the reverse side of the object, let
it soak for a few seconds, then gently lift the tape or stamp. With tangled tapes, place a drop of Un-Stix
between the two tape surfaces and gently separate. Let items thoroughly dry and then chemically process
the items with crystal violet or adhesive-side powder. Un-Stix does not affect later testing for DNA.

CHEMICALS TO ENHANCE BLOODY PRINTS
Numerous methods of staining are used to develop or enhance blood-contaminated latent prints. These
methods depend on staining the protein components of blood to form a more visible impression,
commonly a dark blue or black. Among these methods are Amido Black, LeucoCrystal Violet,
Coomassie Blue, and Acid Fuchsin. Amido Black has also been used to develop and enhance footwear
and tire track impressions. Acid Yellow 7 stain is one of the newer and more effective fluorescent
stains used to enhance bloody footwear and fingerprint impressions on non-porous surfaces. Staining
reveals a yellowish-colored print which fluoresces under blue-green light (400-490 nm). When lifted
with a white gelatin lifter, the impression will often reveal enhanced fluorescence. Available as readyto-use premixed liquid stains and destains.

Iodine Fuming is one of the traditional development methods which is generally used on porous
materials such as paper and cardboard and is generally applied before Ninhydrin or Silver Nitrate
processing. An Iodine Print Enhancer is available packaged in convenient disposable applicators. The
Disposable Iodine Fuming Applicator consists of a flexible plastic applicator containing a breakable

RTX Developer is a solution of Ruthenium Tetroxide and organic solvent which is highly sensitive to

TEC is one of the newer and more successful fluorescent dyes for cyanoacrylate developed latent
prints. TEC absorbs UV light near 350 nm and emits a narrow band at 614 nm. This very wide Stokes
Shift contributes to the ease of filtering the excitation light from the fluorescing print which makes it
clearer and easier to photograph. The formulation used “locks” the dye into the cyanoacrylate and,
therefore, more dye remains in the print after rinsing. This dye has also been successfully used with
CA to develop prints on cadavers.

FOOTWEAR IMPRESSION ENHANCEMENT CHEMICALS
Many footwear impressions found at crime scenes are faint and reveal little detail for comparison or
evaluation. In many cases, chemical enhancement of these impressions can assist in obtaining usable
evidence suitable for a more detailed comparison. Of course, all impressions should be photographed
prior to chemical enhancement. A wide range of chemical enhancement techniques are available.
Choosing the proper enhancement method generally depends on the composition of the residue, dust,
or soil that make up the impressions.
Impressions composed primarily of blood can be enhanced with Amido Black, Coomassie Blue,
LeucoCrystal Violet, Patent Blue, or Acid Fuchsin (Hungarian Red). Impressions made in iron-rich
soils or dusts can generally be enhanced with Potassium Thiocyanate, Ammonium Pyrolidine
Dithiocarbamate, or 8-Hydroxyquinoline. Impressions produced from calcium or magnesium-rich
(lime) dusts or soils can be enhanced with Alizarin Red or Bromphenol Blue chemical sprays. Saltrich impressions, such as commonly found along the ocean coastline or where salt is used as a de-icer
in the winter, can be enhanced with Silver Nitrate Spray.

particularly good for impressions in snow. Simply add the premeasured solution to the zip-top bag
containing the premeasured casting medium (2.2 lbs) and knead with both hands until smooth. Pour
the mixture into the impression area. Typical casts are 1/2” to 3/4” thick and generally do not require
damming or reinforcement. Each kit contains a 2.2 pound bag of Blue Rock casting medium and a
bottle containing a premeasured Blue Rock Solution packaged in a sturdy cardboard box. Allow 15 –

The Microcast Silicone Casting Medium Kit is designed to provide all the materials required to
produce high-quality casts of tool marks, firearms minutiae, and other three-dimensional features. This
medium can also be used to lift dusted fingerprint impressions from difficult surfaces. Based around a
new generation of polymethylsiloxane silicone casting medium and catalyst, this kit consists of 8 jars
containing a premeasured amount of casting medium, a dropper bottle containing catalyst, mixing
sticks, packaging boxes, and a vial of clay which may be needed to construct a casting dam. Packaged
in a foam-fitted carrying case. The polymethylsiloxane silicone casting medium is available in white,
brown, grey, or black allowing you to customize your kit by indicating which combination of colors
you would like. White is good for latents, black for tool marks. This kit makes it easy and inexpensive
to cast or lift marks or impressions at a crime scene. Allow the silicone medium to flow to the bottom
of the jar before removing the jar lid. Add 8 drops of catalyst from the dropper bottle into the jar. Mix
the catalyst thoroughly into the silicone with a lifting and mixing action for about 1 minute being
careful to get the bottom and sides mixed. Pour the mixed casting medium into the impression or
apply the mixed casting medium with the mixing stick or a spatula. Work quickly as the medium will
harden within 3-5 minutes. Discard the mixing jar and mixing stick. Refills include the catalyst and

MICROCAST SILICONE EXTRUDER GUN KIT
The Microcast Silicone Extruder Gun Kit is based around an affordable extrusion cartridge gun and a
new generation of polyvinylsiloxane silicone resins. It is designed to make easy work of producing
high-quality casts of tool marks, impressions, bite marks, pry marks, and other three-dimensional
features. This medium can also be used to lift dusted fingerprint impressions from vertical, angled, or
other difficult surfaces. The extrusion gun and mixing tips automatically mix the resins from the PVS
cartridges ensuring the proper proportion of resin and catalyst. Setting time for this silicone is
approximately two minutes. The mixing tips seal automatically for continued use of the materials at a
later time. We offer a low viscosity silicone which is recommended for the majority of usages and a
medium viscosity silicone which is particularly useful when casting on inclined or vertical surfaces.
Also available is a transparent silicone which, when used to recover latent fingerprints, allows direct
comparison without dimensional reversal. The standard kit contains two 50mL sets of low viscosity
PVS cartridges, 15 mixing tips, a high-quality extrusion gun, and spreader spatulas in a durable plastic
carrying case with a fitted foam liner. Replacement mixing tips should be ordered when ordering
replacement cartridges.

FINGERNAIL EVIDENCE COLLECTION
In many cases, valuable evidence such as skin cells, fibers, or hairs from the perpetrator can be found
under the victim’s fingernails. We offer two forms of evidence collection and protection devices to
assist with this task. For those who prefer to clip off the fingernails, we offer a sterile metal fingernail

The ability to study and measure the spread and distribution of firearms discharge particles on the
clothing of a victim or upon an object can be a useful tool in determining the distance and angle of
firearms discharge. Although the traditional methods of examining visible particles and scorching or
tattooing are useful, smaller particles and condensed gases are generally not observable. A chemical
method of detection and enhancement allows these particles and condensed lead gases to turn a pink
color then a blue color for more accurate determinations. This method can also be utilized to
determine if a suspicious hole in an object is in fact a bullet hole. In this case, the lead wipe commonly
present around a bullet hole will be visualized as a blue color.
The Firearms Residue Detection Kit (Lead) consists of all the reagents required to perform these
enhancement procedures. Eight sets of premeasured reagents contained in spray bottles and complete
directions are packaged in a sturdy plastic carrying case with fitted foam liner.

GUNSHOT RESIDUE COLLECTION
There are basically two types of analysis which can be conducted upon collected residues. The first
type of analysis is conducted by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) upon residues which have been
collected on sticky metal stubs. The second type of analysis is conducted by atomic absorption (AA)
analysis upon residues which have been collected on cotton-tipped swabs. Be sure to check with your
forensic laboratory to determine which type of analysis they conduct. Through Crime Scene Supply,
we offer six types of Gunshot Residue (GSR) Collection Kits: one for analysis by AA, two for
analysis by SEM, one combination kit containing the materials necessary for both AA and SEM, and a
Surface Residue Collection Kit. The SEM stubs are provided with a high quality conductive carbon

Our Swab Box was designed to hold and protect a cotton tipped swab that has been used to collect
body fluids. The swab boxes are constructed from heavyweight cardboard, commonly called
chipboard, with a glazed white surface and no printing on the exterior. These boxes feature two foldup tabs on the interior that hold the shaft and tip of the swab away from the walls of the box in order to
prevent contamination or loss of the sample. Vent holes are provided in both ends of the boxes to
assist in drying the swab. The boxes are shipped and stored flat and unfolded. In use, the tabs are first

VISIBLE FLUORESCENT ALARM BOX PASTE
A new formulation of detection paste to answer the problem of alarm or firebox false alarms,
particularly useful in schools, public facilities, and outdoor alarm or call boxes. The base of this new
formulation consists of a paste that is extremely difficult to remove by washing and is highly weather
resistant. The paste is red colored to match the traditional firebox color and when spread to a very thin
film is nearly invisible. The perpetrator’s hands will be stained a visible red and, when he

DRUG and NARCOTICS TEST KITS
Our series of presumptive field tests are an inexpensive and reliable method to test for the presence or
absence of narcotics and drugs in the field. In response to the preferences of different agencies, we
offer these field tests in either a pouch style test or a tube style test. The pouch style tests consist of a
heavy gauge plastic bag containing plastic-sleeved glass crush vials. The tube style tests consist of the
glass crush vials contained in a plastic tube approximately the size of a cigarette. A small sample of
the suspect substance is placed into the pouch or tube and the glass vials are sequentially crushed to
release premeasured reagents. Color reactions indicate the presumptive presence or absence of the
drug. Shelf life is at least one year. All field tests are packaged in boxes of 10 tests.
NARCO, NARK, NIK, and ODV tests are also available. Please ask.

Although the majority of our customers are law enforcement agencies and other governmental
agencies, we welcome orders from civilians for personal use or for school projects. Please be advised,
however, that a small number of products such as Drug Field Test Kits or those containing certain
hazardous chemicals can only be supplied to governmental agencies due to Federal and State statutes
and regulations.
MEDTECH Forensics, Inc. has offered the products in this catalog in good faith that purchasers are

Returned checks are subject to a $30.00 service charge. Overdue balances are subject to a 1.5% per

Prices do not include freight. All shipping and handling charges are prepaid and added to the invoice.
Any products that require Hazardous Freight Handling will be shipped in accordance with proper

RETURNS AND REFUNDS
--Written authorization from MEDTECH Forensics, Inc. must be obtained prior to any return or
refund.
--Any product returned within 30 days from date of invoice will be charged a 25% restocking fee plus
all freight charges.
--After 30 days from date of invoice, product will not be accepted for credit or refund.
--For credit charge purchases, MEDTECH Forensics, Inc. will issue a company refund check for the
amount of order less a 25% fee and original freight charges. Refund will not be charged back onto
credit card.
--Orders over $500 cannot be returned for credit or refund.
