SIR VETO BIO SIR VETO was first conceived in 1998 from the song writing partnership of Terry Nomikos and Michael Shelley. The two writers shared a common interest in both melody and lyrical ideas. A 5-piece version of the band began gigs around Hobart and by the middle of that year, serious recording started for the band's debut release. The cd simply titled "SIR VETO" was finally released in early 1999. The track, "The time will come", received repeat airplay on JJJ. The band began its swag of support gigs for that year playing alongside bands such as Cold Chisel, The Tea Party, Something For Kate and Killing Heidi. Sir Veto also took part in various festivals such as Gone South and RAW 2000; playing to crowds in excess of 12,000. During this time, the song writing continued with a renewed force taking on a more electronic edge. By the end of 2000, Sir veto had completed its second full-length cd "Specimankind". This was given only a limited release locally and was used more as a promotional tool to pitch to record companies and the like. Even so, the track "Choke" was given repeat airplay on JJJ. In early 2001 the band received interest from local label BIGFISH MUSIC, who agreed to release "Specimankind" both locally and nationally. The returned to the studio to redo several tracks in order to get them "radio ready". The first single MIRACLE began receiving high rotation airplay on TTT fm in late August. Several new tracks were also added to "Specimankind" to freshen it up. The band now had an album that they describe as "cohesive yet diverse, innovative yet accessible" ; "a comment on the human condition" MIRACLE did pretty well on the local airwaves, reaching no. 1 on TTTs "fat four". BIGFISH however, had it's funding dry up and the band was left without a label at a fairly critical time. Sir Veto continued on however taking over the business side of things itself. They went on to play at Music Business Adelaide as well as doing a live to air performance on JJJ when the morning show visited Hobart. In 2002 Sir Veto continued to move forward. Recording new tracks as well as playing various support gigs such as Ed Kueper, rhubarb and Silverchair.. In April 2003, Sir veto is announced as the Hobart winner for JJJ Unearthed with the track "underneath the burning sun", a quirky mix of lyric and atmospheric melody. The band plays several showcase gigs locally to packed houses. As part of the ABC "4 minute wonders competition" , Sir veto scores an animated video for Underneath the Burning Sun, which is aired nationally on RAGE. Band plays supports for Alex Lloyd and Gerling. 2004/2005…The band moves into it's newly refurbished studio, work begins on album number 3.
