2013 MASON COUNTY L.I.A. YOUTH LIVESTOCK SHOWS GENERAL RULES
GERMANTOWN FAIR
July 30 –August 1 (Tuesday – Thursday)
The sale will be a premium auction. The buyers will be making a premium donation to the exhibitors rather than buying their animal. Then the
youth can take their animal home or ship and sell it. The premium auction will be operated on a total dollar amount rather than a price per pound
bid. The LIA feels this will be easier for buyers to budget and spend their money on the young people in the premium auction.
1. The show is open to bonafide 4-H and FFA members until graduating from high school in June. 4-H members must qualify
by completing the 6 hour meeting policy by the tag in dates. They can show in August (after June graduation) at Germantown Fair.
Must be attending school and nine years old on or before January 1, 2013. Members must be from Mason and adjoining counties,
namely: Bracken, Lewis, Robertson, and Fleming Counties.
2. Entry fee of $20 will be charged for each animal eligible for the Germantown show, this fee includes 1 electronic identification
tag and D.N.A. sampling on all animals to show at Germantown Fair. The entry fee will be collected at time of weigh-in –
no refunds. 4 steers, 6 feeder calves, 10 lambs, 10 hogs or 10 market goats can be weighed in and tagged, but only 3 can be shown and
1offered in the premium auction. One entry fee will be charged per animal even if co-tagged amongst siblings and the fair premiums
will be adjusted accordingly. Record books will be distributed at initial weigh-in. Up to date records must be submitted
before animals are weighed at the fair or the participant will be disqualified. Absolutely No Exceptions. Record books will be
judged and prizes awarded for three places in all species.
3. All sheep and goats must be scrapies tagged prior to coming for KUIP tagging.
4. Class distinction between 4-H and FFA will not be made. All entries will be shown, judged, and awarded ribbons as one division.
Premiums will be awarded in each weight class. Premium awards will be determined by the show committee.
5. Animals will have to be on the fairgrounds, Tuesday, July 30th by 10:00 A.M. or they will not be allowed to show. All
animals must have proper ID and Health Papers at the time of weigh-in. Health papers can be obtained from your local Vet. If there
is a question or dispute about the weight of an animal; it must be immediately taken off of the scales, scales balanced to 0 and
re-weighed. The second weight is the official weight and only one re-weigh is allowed. No re-weighs after leaving the scale area.
Weight announced at the fair by the official weigher, is the official weight and is final. Non – qualifying animals (over weight
and under weight) may show in showmanship only. Weigh order will be hogs, lambs, goats, steers and feeders.
All animals must remain on the fairgrounds until released after the show on Thursday.
6. The President or his appointed committee hires the Judge.
7. Show starts at: Hogs - 9:00 A.M.; goats – 30 minutes after the hog show; lambs are 30 minutes after the goats and steers
30 minutes after the Lamb show or at the discretion of the judge and the Feeder Calf show to follow 30 minutes after the
Steer Show, on Wednesday, July 31st.
8. The Show is a blow & go show only, no use of adhesives, camouflaging agents, no use of dyes or other coloring agents above
the hocks and knees to camouflage the natural coloring of an animal or the use of false tail head or switches will be prohibited.
Animals may be disqualified at the discretion of the judge or the rules committee.
9. All animals must be castrated before coming to the weigh-in sites. No castration will be done at weigh-in locations or at the fair.
Steers, wethers, and barrows must not have testicles. Animals with testicles will not be entered.
10. Animals will be shown by weight only and not breed. Classes will be divided by weight. Decision on weight for class breaks
will be made by the Show Committee. Showmanship class size will be determined by the Show Committee: Hogs 8-10;
Steers 8-10; goats 10 – 12; Lambs 10 – 12. SHOWMANSHIP IS MANDATORY FOR EVERYONE.
Showmanship classes will be broken by age.
11. Order of the premium auction will be made by the show committee after the show, on the day of the show. Rules committee
will assist. 2013 order of the premium auction by species will be: Steers including Feeder calves, hogs, lambs and goats. The Supreme
champion animal will be the first animal of the auction.
12. Graduating high school seniors will have the opportunity to help out during the show, assisting in the ring when their
species isn’t showing and during the sale. They will be recognized.
13. Only one animal can be offered for premium auction per youth. If an exhibitor is selected Champion or Reserve in one
species, the exhibitor will not be eligible for Ch. or Res. in any other species. If an exhibitor has class winners in another species,
those class winners will be excused from the championship drive. All Grand and Reserve Champions in each species must be offered
in the premium auction. All animals not in the premium auction and disqualified must be removed from the fairgrounds by noon,
Thursday, August 1, 2013. All animals leaving the fairgrounds must have a release form to be excused or all premiums forfeited.
14. Premium auction commission will be 3.0 % of selling price to cover show expenses and premium awards. The premium
auction will start at 7:00 P.M., Thursday, August 1, 2013. Checks will be mailed after all money is collected. All premium
auctions are final that night and the final bid is what is recorded by the bookkeeper.
15. All members must be present for the show and show their own animals in the show ring. If you don’t show: you can’t
participate in the Premium auction. In case of illness or two in the same class, another member of the club can show the
animals; but in the case of illness you must notify the rules committee. Members must show their own animal in showmanship.
Exhibitors must present their own animals in the premium auction on Thursday night.
16. Questions on rules will be referred to the rules committee in charge. Their decision is final. A protest must be made prior to show.
must pay a $100 non refundable fee. D.N.A. sampling can be formed at the discretion of the rules committee at anytime.
17. Showmanship will be on Tuesday, July 30th at 5:00 P.M. Order of showmanship: Steers including Feeder Calves, Lambs,
Goats and Hogs. The order of showmanship will be oldest to youngest, by the age of the exhibitors. First Year Best Fitted is for
Juniors only, 9-13 years old. They will not show in Supreme Showmanship. An exhibitor may only show one animal per species
and may win only in one specie division. The top 3 showmen (Sr., Int. & Jr.) in each species will be brought back for the Supreme
Showman round robin. The order of round robin will be Senior, followed by Intermediate and then Junior. First year best fitted are
not eligible for this award. You can only show in first year one time, no matter the species.

SHOWMANSHIP CLASSES

Senior (14 years and over)
DOB is Jan 1 – Dec 31, 1998 or earlier
Intermediate (12-13)
DOB is Jan 1, 1999 – Dec 31, 2000
Junior (9-11)
DOB is Jan 1, 2001 – Dec 31, 2003
1st year (Must be 13 and under as of 1/1/13)
Novice (8 & under) Showmanship Show on Thursday, Aug. 1st for all species will start with hogs at 9:00 am followed by lambs,
goats and then cattle (feeder calves, steers or heifers). No premium money.
Exhibitors meeting will follow the novice show. Awards for rate of gain, record books, etc. will be distributed at this
meeting.
18. Any action by participants, guardians or parents not in the best interest of the show and premium auction will result in automatic
disqualification from the show and premium auction.
19. No using of ice, no beating, and no injection of fluids in any way to animals.
20. Exhibitors must follow the new KY 4-H & FFA ownership and possession rule and have a signed form on file with their agent
or advisor.
21. No stall drawing; two hogs, lambs or goats required per stall. If pens are needed, the rules committee may ask lambs and goats to
combine pens with at least 2 animals per pen. There will be no tack stalls due to limited space. No pens can be pre-labeled or made
before 6 P.M. Monday night, (excluding district hog show participants).. No loose bedding allowed in hog stalls. Mats or carpet may be used.
Due to limited stall space. All animals on the grounds must be in the market show. No showmanship only animals. No novice
only animals allowed in stalls until Thursday.
22. Any species that wins Grand Champion, if animal is bred and owned by the exhibitor, Mason County LIA will award $100. Any
Reserve Champion, bred and owned by the exhibitor will be awarded $50. Also Farm Credit will sponsor separate classes for bred
and owned animals after the regular show.
A Home Grown animal is determined as the exhibitor owns and has possession of the dam
(mother of animal exhibited) at time of birth of the animal exhibited.
23. All entry numbers must be displayed on upper back of exhibitors by way of a clip on badge which will be provided.
They will be provided at time of weigh-in at the fair.
Steer weights will be displayed on exhibitors back on Market show day.
24. All animals KUIP tagged must be D.N.A. sampled and nominated.

1.
Steers must be owned and in possession of members by February 23, 2013.
2.
Steer entry date is February 23, 2013. Rate of Gain Contest starts same day. Each County is
responsible for its Rate of Gain Contest. All steers that will be shown at Germantown Fair must
be brought to the Bluegrass - Maysville Stockyards on the AA Highway (KY 9) for identification
February 23, 2013, 10 A.M. – 12:00 noon.
3.
Steers are to be on the Fairgrounds on Tuesday, July 30 by 10:00 A.M. or they will be disqualified.
Steer weigh-in will follow the lambs.
4.
Steers must be halter broken and must be tied in stalls with neck ropes.
5.
Only steers are eligible. Steers must be dehorned before weigh-in.
6.
Steers must weigh 850-1450 lbs. at the time of Germantown Show.
7.
4-H exhibitors must complete the 6 hour meeting requirement prior to tagging animals.
8.
A Home Grown animal is determined as the exhibitor owns and has possession of the dam (mother of
the animal exhibited) at time of birth of the animal exhibited.

Hogs must be owned and in possession of members by May 11, 2013.

Hog weigh-in will be May 11th at the Bluegrass – Maysville Stockyards, 8:00 A.M. – 12:00 noon for
identification and official entry.

Hog weigh-in for the Germantown Fair will begin at 8:00 A.M. on Tuesday July 30.

Hogs will be driven.
5.
Barrows and gilts are eligible.
6.
Hogs must weigh between 200 - 280 lbs.
7.
4-H exhibitors must meet the 6 hour meeting requirement prior to tagging animals.

Lambs can be shown with or without halters.
5.
Ewes and wethers are eligible.
6.
Lambs must weigh at least 80 pounds and have their lamb teeth at show time.
7.
No unsheared lambs; they also must be docked and fitted.
8.
4-H youth must complete 6 hour meeting requirement prior to tagging animals.
9.
A Home Grown animal is determined as the exhibitor owns and has possession of the dam (mother of
the animal exhibited) at time of birth of the animal exhibited.

2013 Youth Livestock Feeder Calf Show & Sale
Germantown Fair
Feeder Calf Rules
1. Feeder calves can be steers or heifers. Steer castration must be done prior to the tagging date, Friday,
May 10th. 6:00 PM – 7:00 PM.
2. Calves must originate from a herd in Bracken, Fleming, Lewis, Mason or Robertson Counties. A buyerseller agreement form will be filled out and turned in at weigh-in.
3. Feeder calves must be weaned 30 days prior to fair.
4. Feeder calves must be owned by tag in date, May 10. The calves must be in possession of the youth
exhibitors by July 1, 2013.
5. Calves may be any beef breed or beef crossbred.
6. Calves must be born January 1- March 31, 2013.
7. At fair time in August calves must weigh a minimum of 300 pounds and a maximum of 700 pounds. No
Exceptions.
8. Feeder calves are to be tagged at the Bluegrass-Maysville Stockyards, on Friday, May 10, 6:00 P.M. –
7:00 P,M.
9. Pre-conditioning shots may be given at weigh in.
10. The youth feeder calf show will follow the steer show. Classes will be determined by weight. Steers and
heifers will show together.
11. Calves will be shown by halter.
12. Feeder calves must be on the fairgrounds by 10 A.M. on Tuesday, July 30. Weigh-in will follow the
finished steers.
13. 4-H members must complete the 6 hour meeting requirement prior to tagging in animals.
14. Feeders will be KUIP tagged like all other species.
15. A Home Grown animal is determined as the exhibitor owns and has possession of the dam (mother of
the animal exhibited) at time of birth of the animal exhibited.

2013 Goat Rules
1.All 4-H, FFA entries must be nominated and identified by the Kentucky Uniform Identification
Program (KUIP) and pay the $20 entry fee per head . Weigh- in is May 11th, 8:00 A.M. -12:00
P.M. at the Bluegrass-Maysville Stockyards.
2. Horns are optional, but must be tipped. Tipped is defined as the end of the horn squared off to
½ inch in diameter or larger.
3. All goats are required to have a complete unbroken mouth and goat teeth and weigh a minimum
of 40 pounds at the fair. Animals are subject to be mouthed to check age.
4. All goats must be shown by the 4-H or FFA exhibitor (owner) unless the exhibitor is
incapacitated (deprived or strength or ability; physically impaired) or has more than one entry in a
class, then he or she many have another 4-H or FFA youth exhibit his or her animal.
5. Goats will be shown by weights. Weigh-in will follow lambs on Tuesday, July 30.
6. Market kids must be clean castrated (banded or surgically removed, clamping is not allowed),
and the animal must be clipped slick above the knee and hock joint (5/8 inch or less). No artificial
color may be used.
7. Exhibitors may enter market wethers or market does. Induced cryptorchids (short scrotum
kids) and buck goats may not be shown. Any wether kid showing signs of secondary sexual
characteristics may not be shown.
8. 4-H members must complete their 6 hour requirement prior to tagging in their goat in May.
9. Goats will be shown with a humane type training collar.
10.
A Home Grown animal is determined as the exhibitor owns and has possession of the
dam (mother of animal exhibited) at time of birth of the animal exhibited.
