Re: Naloxone (Opioid Antagonist) Standing Order Prescription
Dear President Miller:
After close scrutiny and some editing, the final and approved Intranasal Naloxone Standing Order
Prescription is included with this letter. This prescription meets the requirements of both O.C.G.A.
16-13-74 (Written prescriptions for dangerous drugs) and O.C.G.A. 26-4-116.2 (Authority of health
practitioners to prescribe opioid antagonists).
Therefore, please consider this standing order prescription to be valid and approved by this agency to be used
by health practitioners to prescribe Naloxone for Intranasal use by a:
Person at risk of experiencing an opioid related overdose,
Pain management clinic,
First responder (which includes law enforcement personnel)
Harm reduction organization
Family member, friend, or other person in a position to assist a person at risk
This order can also be utilized to order Nasal Atomizers to distribute for use with the Naloxone, even though
Nasal Atomizers do not require a prescription to be distributed.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Sincerely,
Rick Allen, R.Ph.
Director
