under WA legislation.

BRIEF STATEMENT OF DUTIES
Resident Medical Officers usually spend 6 or 12 months at Princess Margaret Hospital
rotating to different departments each 2 months. The 6 month training programme focuses
on the primary care of children and is suitable for residents intending to go into general
practice. Residents are eligible to enrol for the Diploma of Child Health. The 12 month
training programme is available for Resident Medical Officers aspiring to a career in
Paediatrics.
Princess Margaret Hospital is the only tertiary paediatric teaching hospital in Western Australia
and currently sees approximately 42 000 children a year in the Emergency Department with a
wide casemix. Approximately 25% of patients seen are admitted to the Hospital.
Resident Medical Officers will be expected to manage outpatients and inpatients under the
supervision of registrars and specialists.

The Royal Australian College of Physicians
Resident Medical Officers may gain experience in the following areas: Emergency, Oncology,
Neurosurgery/Neurology, Rehabilitation Medicine, Rheumatology, Orthopaedics, Plastic
Surgery, General Paediatric Surgery, Adolescent Medicine, Ophthalmology, Infants, ENT
Surgery, Neonates, Cardiology, General Paediatrics - Medicine, Diabetes/Endocrine, Renal,
Immunology, Respiratory Medicine, Genetics, Dermatology and Gastroenterology.
Residents are expected to attend and actively participate in as many hospital meetings and
lectures as possible.

SELECTION CRITERIA
ESSENTIAL MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Qualification in Medicine registrable by the Medical Board of Western Australia.

Appropriate clinical experience to undertake a Resident Medical Officer position.

Good interpersonal communication skills.

Works effectively as a team member.
DESIRABLE REQUIREMENTS

Shows dedication to and interest in pursuing a career in Paediatrics, Emergency Medicine or General Practice
and has a positive attitude to learning and developing skills.

Has at least two years of clinical experience post graduation.

APPOINTMENT FACTORS:
Evidence of registration by the Medical Board of Western
Australia must be provided prior to commencement. This position is subject to a
successful Criminal Record Screening Check and a successful Pre- Placement Health
Screening Clearance Check. This position is also subject to a Working With Children
(WWC) Check. This is a compulsory check for people who carry out child-related work in
Western Australia.
