Living History Day REGISTRATION DEADLINE is FRIDAY, MARCH 15th The historian MUST have had an impact of true historical significance; not just a celebrity status. What is Living History Day? Living History Day is an event sponsored by your PTA for which students choose a person of historical significance to research. Students are required to create an informative poster (no larger than 18 x 24) with the following details: * A picture/ illustration of the historian * Why the historian was famous * When and where he/she was born and died * Three additional important facts about him/her The students will be asked to use their poster to share the information during their short two minute presentation on Living History Day. When is Living History Day? Living History Day is scheduled for Thursday, March 21st, 2013 and it takes place during the school day. How can my child participate? Complete the attached registration form and turn it in to his/her teacher NO LATER THAN Friday, March 15th. The registration MUST include the name of the historical person to be portrayed by the student. Registrations received after this date will NOT be accepted. How should my child prepare for Living History Day? Students should research their selected historian in the library, online, in books, etc. They should create an informative poster and prepare a 2 minute talk, speaking as though they are the actual person (for example: not “Thomas Jefferson wrote the Declaration of Independence”, but “I wrote the Declaration of Independence.”) The students are encouraged, but not required, to dress in costume. What happens on Living History Day? During school, students will visit classrooms in groups to make their oral presentations. Per MCPS policy, children’s names will not be shown on any of these media, only first names and last initials (example: John D.)
