The new site (behind Saratoga Stem School) is working out very well. Conferences have been serving an average of 75 kids per day. The number of children seems a bit low but expected. Given the new location and stormy weather in June it is expected the number of children will increase as the summer progresses. Possible Help is Needed! Help may be needed the week of August 5 – 9th of the Summer Lunch Program. Because of this late date, I look to current conference participants to consider helping out. It would be a lot to ask any one conference to take on another week but could your conference take on one day that week? Please discuss this with your group and contact Julie to learn more. Page 6 of 7 WHAT’S AHEAD August Meal Program SVDP Volunteer Commitment August 2013 05 - St Mary 12 – St Catherine 19 – St Jerome 26 - St Leonard September 2013 SVDP Awareness Month The Archdiocesan Council has dedicated the month of September to promote St. Vincent de Paul Society. This ties together St. Vincent de Paul Feast Day and our Annual Friends of the Poor Walk. All of the nine District Council areas encourage their conferences to participate in creating a greater awareness to SVdP in their parish. A booklet prepared by the Archdiocesan VOP Committee, has been sent to all Conference Presidents to guide conferences with various ways to create SVdP awareness. In it you will find ideas to help you, many facts about SVdP and suggestions of how to promote your conference and activities. To exemplify solidarity in parishes throughout the Archdiocese, it is asked all conferences stay faithful to the weekly themes as listed below. Keep in mind, planning needs to begin now to make this happen at your parish. The weekly schedule: Week 1 – September 8 - Kick off Awareness and focus on Hunger Week 2 – September 15 - Visitations – Visits to Homes; Hospitals; Nursing Homes; Prisons Week 3 – September 22 - SVdP Thrift Stores and Voice of the Poor Ministry Week 4 – September 29 - A Vincentian Celebration The month long SVdP Awareness Program will conclude with a special Vincentian Celebration Mass Sunday, September 29 at 10:00 a.m. at the Cousins Center, 3501 S.
