Catalogue Course Description:
Prerequisites: Theatre 440 and 530A or 530B.
History of scene design and application of contemporary styles to various types of dramatic
productions.
Course Objectives:
 To introduce the advanced scene design student to scripts requiring a variety of stylistic
approaches to design problems
 To develop an approach to set design through the process of model making
 To broaden the student’s knowledge of dramatic literature and to strengthen analytical
skills
 To increase the students design/artistic vocabulary
 To develop greater presentation/communication skills
Objectives Will Be Met Through:
 Class projects on a variety of design assignments
 Class presentations of Design
 Class discussions of assigned scripts
 Class discussions of 20th Century Designers
 Class work on sketching, model-making, and drafting
