Welcome to BU Intramural Ice Broomball 2015 Below are a few facts that we like you to know before registering for our league. If you have already registered for Ice Broomball, and feel based on the information below that you would like to be refunded, please let us know ASAP so that we can allow another team in to fill your spot. In order for us to accommodate the large number of students who want to play Broomball each year, our Broomball league runs later in the night than most other IM Sports. You will notice on the roster that above each day we list the general times you can expect to be scheduled for games on that particular night. Due to the sporadic nature of available ice time, the season for Broomball spans a much larger portion of the semester than a normal IM league. Because of this, individual team schedules will not be as regular as you might have become accustomed to if you’ve played in one of our other sports. For instance, schedules may be very spread out, concentrated towards the beginning or end of the semester, grouped tightly within a short frame of time, etc. Also due to the limited amount of ice, the playoffs for Ice Broomball run right up until the final day of classes for the spring semester. We will discuss playoffs more in our next bullet point below, but please be aware that should your team continue to advance through the playoff bracket, the need for you to juggle your busy end of the year academics with your extra-curricular activities will become more evident. Playoffs for Ice Broomball are run a little differently than our other sports. In Broomball, the first and second seed from each league will advance to the playoffs. Playoff seeding will take place via a lottery. The lottery will be taking place after all regular season games have been completed, and all first and second place teams will be invited. At this lottery, the first place teams will be drawn and they will select their desired place in the bracket. The second place teams will then be drawn and they will select their spot based on the remaining options. Please note that THE PLAYOFF BRACKET IS ALREADY POSTED ON THE BROOMBALL SCHEDULE PAGE. If you feel this is too many games too close to the end of your semester then we ask you to consider this before registering. As you can imagine, we have a limited amount of ice time and rescheduling of playoff games is not an option or a possibility. In order for us to get as much ice as we needed, we have a large amount of Saturday hours this season. Because of this, all teams will be required to be available to be potentially scheduled on one or more Saturdays. We will NOT be scheduling games on Patriots Day (Monday, April 18), however, playoffs will begin the Saturday of that weekend. We WILL be scheduling games on the second Beanpot Monday, (2/8). We typically schedule games on and through Holiday weekends. If you select Sunday as a day that your team can do, please look ahead and be sure to note on your roster if there are any specific holiday weekends on which your team cannot play. Games will begin on Monday, February 8. Please email IMSports@bu.edu with any questions or concerns. We hope to see you out there!
