05/25/2012 Page 1 of 3 Winthrop University Office of Sponsored Programs and Research Intent to Apply for External Grant INSTRUCTIONS Purpose: To inform the Department Head, Dean, Sponsored Programs and Research Office and the Academic Vice President of your intent to apply for an externally funded grant. This form is NOT an approval to submit the grant. Once the proposal is ready for submission, you must send it forward for appropriate review and approval using the Grant Routing and Authorization form. Note that the final proposal must be sent to the Sponsored Programs and Research Office at least 7 work days prior to the submission deadline. Distribution This form should be completed on-line and sent to the Department Head as an email attachment. SAVE THE DOCUMENT AS A .PDF FILE BEFORE FORWARDING IT ON FOR APPROVAL. The ipad does not like the WORD format, and therefore you must put it in .pdf format. The Department Head will forward the email on to the Dean or Other Unit Head once he/she has reviewed the project and is in agreement with pursuit of the grant. The Dean or Unit Head will forward the email on to the Academic Vice President and the Sponsored Programs and Research Office once he/she has reviewed the project and is in agreement with pursuit of the grant. The Sponsored Programs and Research Office will notify the Principal Investigator via email once the email forwarding the Intent to Apply form is received. Financial Information The Principal Investigator should provide estimates of the anticipated funding request and other resource needs, such as personnel, facilities and IT Support. A detail budget submission is not required with the Intent to Apply. Questions?
