Indication for Use/Dosage
Calamine Lotion
Itching due to insect bites, minor skin irritation, poison
ivy/oak. Apply topically as needed.
Benadryl (25 mg)
Mild allergic reactions. Bee, wasp, hornet stings, hay
fever, insect bites, poison ivy/oak. Dosage: Adult: 1-2 tab
every 4-6 hrs.
Benadryl (Jr. Strength)
Mild allergic reactions. Bee, wasp, hornet stings, hay
fever, insect bites, poison ivy/oak. Dosage: 6-12 yrs, 1-2
tabs; 12 yrs +, 2-4 tabs every 4-6 hrs.
Benadryl (Elixir)
Mild allergic reactions. Bee, wasp, hornet stings, hay
fever, insect bites, poison ivy/oak. Dosage: 6-12 yrs, 1-2
tsp; 12 yrs +, 2-4 tsp every 4-6 hrs.
Tylenol (326 mg tabs)
Headache, toothache, menstrual pain, fever, earache.
Dosage: Adult: 1-2 tabs every 4-6 hrs, Child: over 5 and
under 12, 1 tab every 4-6 hrs.
Tylenol Chew Tabs
Headache, toothache, fever, earache. Dosage: Child: 2-6
yrs, 1 tab every 4-6 hrs; 6-12 yrs, 2 tabs every 4-6 hrs; 12
yrs + 4 tabs every 4-6 hrs.
Ibuprofen
Headache, toothache, fever, earache, menstrual pain.
Dosage: Adults (12 yrs +), 1-2 tabs every 4-6 hrs.
Gravol (Adult)
Travel sickness, nausea, vomiting. Dosage: Adult: 1 tab
every 4-6 hrs
Gravol (Junior)
Travel sickness, nausea, vomiting. Dosage: 8-12 yrs, 1-2
tabs; 12-16 yrs, 2 tabs every 6-8 hrs.
Gravol (Children)
Travel sickness, nausea, vomiting. Dosage: 2-6 yrs, 1 tab;
6-12 yrs, 2 tabs every 6-8 hours
Triaminic
Runny nose, cough, sore throat, fever. Dosage: 2-6 yrs, 1
tsp; 6-12 yrs, 2 tsp; 12 yrs +, 4 tsp every 4-6 hrs.
Tylenol Cold
Nasal congestion, dry cough, fever, aches and pain.
Dosage: Adults (12 yrs +), 1-2 caplets every 6-8 hrs.
Cough Syrup
For coughs due to colds. Dosage: Adults (12 yrs +) 2 tsp;
6-11 yrs, 1 tsp; 2-5 yrs, .5 tsp every 6 hrs.
Chloraseptic Throat
Lozenges
PRN, nurse’s discretion. Dissolve 1 lozenge every 2 hrs.
Midol
Menstrual pain. Dosage: Adults, 2 tabs every 4 hrs.
Rolaids
Indigestion, heartburn. Dosage: Adults (12 yrs +), chew 12 tabs as needed
Polysporin Antibiotic
Ointment
Prevents infection of scrapes and cuts. Apply as needed.
Afterbite
Insect bites and stings. Apply with a Q-tip.
Sunscreen
Broad Spectrum protection. Apply topically throughout the
day to protect against the sun’s rays.
Insect Repellent
PRN topically for protection against insect bites.
The camp nurse/first aider can administer personal medications of campers and
staff if labeled correctly, in original containers with the name of camper, name of
drug, route and frequency to be given.
