A. Personal Statement. Research in Dr. Murphy's lab focuses on the development of distinct cell lineages
within the vertebrate immune system, primarily at the transcriptional level. Current lineages of interest include
T cell subsets, dendritic cell and macrophages, and the role of the ATF family of AP-1 transcription factors in
specification of these cell types.

Title of Research: Signaling in Lymphocyte Development
Major goal of this research is to study receptors and signaling pathways that control the development and activation of
lymphocytes.
Dr. Murphy does not receive salary support from grants, his salary is provided from HHMI funds.

AADCRC Innate and Adaptive Immune Signaling in Asthma
The major goals of this project are to understand how innate and adaptive immune signals contribute to the
pathogenesis of asthma and thereby develop new therapeutic strategies for this condition. Project 3 will continue the
theme for immune balance and the proposal that a deficiency in turning off the immune response could lead to an
excessive and prolonged inflammatory response to allergic and other stimuli.

Defining the Role of BTLA in Breast Cancer Immunosurveillance and Selective Targeting of the BTLA-HVEM-Light
Constimulatory System
The major goals of this project is that BTLA contributes to the inhibition of breast cancer immunosurveillance, and
selective targeting of the BTLA-Light-HVEM costimlatory system can enhance breast cancer immunity.
