APPENDIX 10 Checklist for documentation of channel-body geometry. Information should be recorded explicitly in the text, with reference to figures where appropriate. A. Individual channel bodies 1. Maximum thickness and location of thickest zone within the body 2. Typical thickness, where maximum is considerably greater 3. Width (true width), with range if more than one cross-section available; if width incompletely known, give minimum documented value 4. Width of central body and wings, if appropriate 5. Width/thickness (range and typical value if more than one cross-section available) 6. Basis for estimating true width (e.g. mapped form of channel body; comparison with paleoflow data, with description of dataset used) 7. Length 8. Planform description of mapped body (e.g. branching patterns, thick and wide zones) 9. Area (especially important where sheets have complex paleoflow patterns) 10. Relationship of channel body to surrounding strata (e.g. prominence of incision; nature of margins) B. Groups of channel bodies 1. Range of thickness and true width, with statement of typical ranges 2. Range of width/thickness, with statement of typical range 3. Graph of thickness against width for all bodies in the group
