MassDEP (24-Hour Statewide Number to Report a Spill of Oil or Hazardous Material) (888) 304-1133 Following verbal notification of a spill requiring immediate (two hour) notification, Fitchburg State must make written notification of the discharge within 60 days by submitting a completed Release Notification Form (RNF) to MassDEP. A copy of an RNF is included in Appendix F. It is the responsibility of the Oil SPCC Coordinator to ensure that the proper notifications are made. NO Did the spill reach a catch basin? NO Notify the SPCC Coordinator Deploy catch basin mats and contain the spill with absorbent material. Place containment boom and/or absorbent material downgradient. Recover spilled material using absorbent materials The SPCC Coordinator will complete an incident report and arrange for proper disposal of waste materials YES YES Notify the SPCC Coordinator Attempt to stop the release and deploy spill response materials only if possible without endangering yourself or others. The SPCC Coordinator will notify appropriate Federal, State, and local authorities, appropriate Fitchburg State personnel, and a response contractor to assist. The SPCC Coordinator will direct the response activities until the response contractor arrives on-site.
