Bruce Castle Museum’s Responsible Visitor Charter Our environment is very important to us. At Bruce Castle Museum we are working towards becoming more eco-friendly. To this end we have taken the following steps: o o o o o o o o o o o o We have Environmental Sustainability Report for this Grade 1 listed building; We recycle as many materials as we can; We use environmentally-friendly products and services wherever possible We encourage the use of public transport, cycling, or visiting the museum by foot; There are bike racks to encourage cyclists and bicycles can be brought into the building if necessary We work with our colleagues in Haringey Council’s Park Service to look after the museum’s green spaces; We have created special area in our ‘green’ courtyard and there is a dedicated area in the park to create a sustainable environment for plants and insects; We have reduced the temperature of the water in the taps and this is monitored monthly; We have reduced the amount of water we use in our toilets; We are monitoring energy and water usage and are going to set targets to continue this reduction; Our regular Family Activities Programme uses recycled materials to create art; We have the Bruce Castle Tree Trail available to explore the nature of the park and in the museum. However we need your help. We can all reduce our impact on the environment by making choices. Here are some ideas on how you can help: o Leave the car behind - Walk, cycle or use public transport. Our staff will happily provide you with advice about local transport links; o Shop Local – Use local products, they help support local communities. There is a Farmers’ Market at nearby Alexandra Palace, Sundays 10am – 3pm. We are awaiting the opening of the Farm Shop at very nearby Lordship Recreation Ground imminently; o There are also plenty of independent shops on Tottenham High Road and Lordship Lane, only a 7 minute walk away. o Reduce, Reuse, Recycle – Where possible avoid excessive packaging and use your own bag for shopping. o Be Water Wise – Please use water wisely. o Respect nature – Help us to look after the museum’s courtyard garden and the park by not littering o Support Green businesses. There are hundreds of businesses trying to reduce their carbon footprints through the Green Tourism Business Scheme.
