1. Demonstrate critical thinking skills through the
application of evidence and to be able to assess, weigh,
and apply evidence when making arguments.
80 % of student majors will successfully complete a
research project that requires the student to plan,
analyze, and synthesize political arguments.

4910) with a grad of “C” or higher.
80% of program graduating applicants will respond
favorably (satisfied and very satisfied) to the quality of
instruction provided in major courses -- as indicated on
exit survey.
2. Demonstrate an understanding of the historical
debates concerning political ideas and government.
80% of student majors taking Seminar in Seminar in
Political Science (POS 4936) will complete a term
report (paper) that discusses, synthesizes, or
explains with a grade of “C” or higher

3. Explain the nature of theories and to be able to
define, recognize, apply, and critique various theories
as they apply to politics and political science.

earn a grade of “C” or higher in Contemporary
Political Ideologies (POT 4064).

4. Demonstrate a substantial knowledge of current
political governmental structures and processes in the
United States and other political systems.
70 % of student majors will successfully complete
the course requirements of American National
Government (POS 2041). A minimum grade of “C” is
required for passing

5. Discuss the fundamental issues of diversity in politics
70% of student majors will successfully complete
the course requirements in International Relations
(INR 2002), Comparative Government (CPO 2002),
and or International Law (INR 4403).
