Chapters 6 & 7 (roughly pp. 81-109)
Final analysis and reaction (perhaps including Afterward)
PART ONE
Description:
Part one of your diary assignment is a basic summary of the events that
took place in the assigned pages. It may be as simple as a one paragraph analysis, BUT it must
be well written.
Hints:
Make sure you employ transitions as you move forward from one fact to
the next. In addition, watch out for run-on sentences.
PART TWO
Description:
Part two is a personal reaction to the sections of the story you were
assigned to read. There is no “right or wrong” in this section.
Hints:
Do not be afraid to put your feelings into words. You must be able to
convey emotions through your writing. Put yourself in the situation and ask yourself, “How
would I react?” DO NOT HOLD BACK. Watch out for “stream of consciousness” writing.
FORMAT
As you read the assigned section, be sure to complete both parts of your diary and compile your
entries as you go along from section to section until completed.
Each entry should be clearly defined with both the date and the pages (in the book) that the entry
refers to.
GRADING
The diary will not be graded on the correctness of your feelings, but the
correctness of your summary and how well you convey your feelings. How much obvious
effort went into the thought process of analyzing and understanding the situations within
the story will be another factor in the grading. The assignment will count as a quiz grade.
