Bibliography of publications from research based on mammal specimens in the University of Kansas Natural History Museum (1940–2009)© Compiled by Robert M. Timm The value of scientific research collections is difficult to put a specific figure on. In part, the problem lies in how scientists work. Rigorous studies often take several years to come to fruition. The true value of collections is perhaps best demonstrated by the scientific publications resulting from the study of those specimens. The following list of publications all are based on study of specimens in the Recent mammal collection of the University of Kansas Natural History Museum and Biodiversity Institute. I encounter some 25–30 papers per year that are published based upon the study of specimens here in the research collection of mammals. Researchers using the collection are encouraged to sent new references as well as corrections to the references provided here. 1940 Hibbard, C. W. 1940.
