Title: Volunteer Sexual Assault Counselor
Purpose: To provide hotline counseling, hospital and legal accompaniment, support
group co facilitation and referrals to clients and/or family members of sexual assault
victims.
Supervisor(s): Assistant Director
Director of Education, Training and Volunteer services
Qualifications:








Completion of 40 hours Volunteer Training Program.
Ability to handle crisis situations.
Understanding of basis counseling (Empowerment model) and advocacy skills.
Ability to remain non- judgmental and non- directive.
Signing and adhering to confidentiality pledge.
Access to reliable transportation and phone service.
Adherence to the philosophy, goals and policies of the Sexual Assault Resource
Counseling Center.
Child abuse and criminal clearances for the state of Pennsylvania.
Responsibilities:





To provide hotline counseling, hospital and legal accompaniment, support group
co facilitation and referrals to clients and/or family members of sexual assault
victims.
Completion of ten (10) hours of in service training each year.
Attend Quarterly meetings of the volunteer staff.
Report all client information to the Sexual Assault Resource Counseling Center
staff the next working day after contact with client.
Contact SARCC Director or staff backup regarding mandated reports of child
abuse or suicide attempts.

Title: Medical Advocate
Purpose: To provide hospital accompaniment, to clients and/or family members of
sexual assault victims.
Supervisor(s): Assistant Director
Director of Education, Training and Volunteer services
Qualifications:










Completion of 40 hours Volunteer Training Program.
Completion of 18 hour Medical Advocate training.
Completion of shadowing of sexual assault accompaniment, with SARCC staff
member. Shadowing to be scheduled by mutual agreement with SARCC staff and
medical Advocate.
Ability to handle crisis situations.
Understanding of basis counseling and advocacy skills.
Ability to remain non- judgmental and non- directive.
