Dane: Rebuilding his smile, rebuilding his life
Dane is from Boise, Idaho – small town America, not necessarily the place you'd imagine
a person would begin an enormous journey. But starting with his e.max® restorations,
Dane has made an epic sojourn from where his life was before.
Dane was a homebuilder who fell on very hard times when the economy failed in 2008.
He went from prosperity to the brink of disaster. He was about to lose everything he
worked so hard for – hundreds of thousands of dollars, his home, his vehicles, and most
importantly, his family. And what he did lose may have been the most essential thing of
all – his confidence. But fate led him to meet someone during a remodeling project that
put him on the path to complete transformation. This person told him about how his
smile was directly related to confidence, and Dane realized that he needed to restore his
confidence first before he could repair anything else in his life that was broken.
Investing in himself
Despite having lost everything and being nearly destitute, he decided to fix his smile.
And even though he was on the brink of divorce, his wife still believed in him and they

Jeanne: One little tooth leads to a big new smile
Jeanne's big problem came from just one little tooth that prevented her front teeth from
coming in properly. Even though she had a crown put on it, her teeth didn't match and
her smile was flawed. Jeanne isn't a person who cares all that much about what others
think, but it bothered her personally – it prevented her from feeling comfortable when she
smiled and especially when she laughed, and she loves to laugh. So…little tooth, big
problems!

Von: The brightest smile on the field
Hockey players might be better known for losing their teeth, but in the heat of a high
school football game, Von Humphies proved that football players can also take a shot to
the mouth. Soon after, when Von's affected tooth started to turn dark and grey, Von took
another hit – this time to his self-esteem. "I spent from 17 years old until my early 40s
hiding my smile so I could hide that unsightly tooth," Von confesses.
Getting his smile back
Despite many hours in the dentist's chair, Von spent years in this condition – throughout
high school, college and decades thereafter. But as luck would have it, a direct inquiry
from his brother-in-law, a dental professional, finally corrected what Von spent so much

Angelo: A smile of his own
New Jersey native Angelo works for a Virginia Beach dental laboratory. One would then
assume he'd have an amazing smile, and he does… but it wasn't always like that.
Angelo describes his old smile as "raggedy," like a jack-o-lantern. "If I bit into a pumpkin,
I'd make a better smile than if you cut it yourself," he jokes. But his fear of dental
procedures – especially those dreaded needles – took its toll, and Angelo gave up ever
having his own fabulous smile. He figured he would eventually need dentures and was
planning on just getting his teeth pulled as needed.
Resigned to removables
Angelo lost many of his natural teeth to poor diet and improper dental care. He also had

Tim: Investing in Himself Yields Big Returns
Tim, from the Chicago area, is a family guy who puts his family's needs before his own.
But last year, he realized that he needed to do something for himself. His smile was
holding him back both professionally and personally, so with the support of his wife, Tim
decided to "improve his look."
Tim's Turn
After more than 20 years of putting his wife and four children first, why now did he
decide to fix his smile? For his family, of course. Tim rose up the corporate ladder into a
management position, and he realized that he needed to improve his professional
appearance. Unfortunately, he felt that his teeth detracted from his ability to deliver
presentations and lead meetings. He had 20 year old bonding that had become worn

confidence. She's a project manager for a software company, working with law

Christie: A new second-half smile
Christie, from Seattle, WA, didn't have to be persuaded to try veneers – she has had
them since she was 13 years old. Her two upper baby lateral incisors fell out (the teeth
next to her front teeth), but her permanent ones did not follow. This led to large gaps,
which three-and-a-half years of braces did not entirely correct. The gaps were gone, but
the teeth now next to her front ones were pointy cuspids, not the full-sized lateral

What to Expect at Your Dentist Consultation
The first meeting with your dentist will be a discussion about the concerns you have with
your teeth, as well as the results you want to achieve. Your dentist will create a
treatment plan to address these concerns in the best way possible.
Once you and your dentist have discussed a treatment plan, they will determine if e.max
is a right fit for your smile.
Next, your doctor will make the proper preparations of your teeth. This may include
removing some decayed tooth structure to make room for a replacement restoration or
creating a form for your new ceramic restorations to be placed.
Depending on the fabrication technique and complexity of your case, your new smile will
be created and ready in as little as two hours.
The doctor will then permanently cement your ceramic teeth over your prepared natural
teeth.
When your new teeth are seated, you will be asked to try some chewing motions to
evaluate how everything feels. The doctor may need to do some brief additional
customization to your restorations to achieve a more natural fit.

Terms To Know
All-ceramic
All-ceramic restorations are made up of entirely non-metal materials (glass) and more
closely resemble natural teeth. Examples of all-ceramic restorations include: crowns,
bridges, veneers, inlays, and onlays
Bridge
A bridge is a way for a dentist to fill in a space left by a missing tooth. Because a missing
tooth does not have a foundation to apply a crown, the dentist prepares the two teeth on
either side of the missing tooth. Then, a piece of ceramic is made which looks like three
teeth but rather than being separate, they are all joined together. The two prepared teeth
are covered by ceramic and the area where the missing tooth was is filled with a natural
looking piece of ceramic that resembles a tooth.
Cementation
Cementation is a way to hold restorations in place within the patient's mouth.
Crown
A crown is a piece of ceramic shaped like a tooth that replaces any decayed tooth that a
dentist has removed. A ceramic crown typically makes up the majority of a tooth after it
is cemented in place.
Implant
Implants are an alternative to bridges which persevere the teeth adjacent to a missing
tooth. In an implant procedure, an artificial root is put in place to become an anchor point
for a crown which will fill in the empty space left by the missing tooth.
Impression
A mould of your teeth. Your dentist may use a putty-like substance to make this mould or
use a digital imaging camera.
Minimally Invasive Dentistry
A process that aims to preserve as much natural tooth as possible. In cases where there
is tooth decay, the dentist will need to remove the diseased tooth structure so that the
decay does not spread.
Restoration
The finished product which changes the appearance of a tooth or corrects a dental
problem.
Preparation
The act of removing decayed tooth structure to make room for a replacement
restoration.
Temporary Restoration
Plastic teeth that are created and given to patients to utilize during the time their final
