This program provides comprehensive, individualized day treatment services to
adults with either a serious mental illness alone or in combination with a
chemical addiction for adults over the age of 18. This program is for patients who
need close monitoring of their daily living, symptoms, and medication. The goal
of the program is to minimize or prevent psychiatric hospitalization and to assist
patients in maximizing their ability to function independently in the community.
Services include pre-vocational activities, medication monitoring, case
management, graduate groups, and aftercare.
The Pre-vocational program consists of five pre-vocational training units that
help clients develop work and interpersonal skills geared toward readiness for
vocational rehabilitation. The program consists of five units:
Food Service Unit: Clients learn proper food handling techniques while serving
lunch to Partial Hospital clients. They clean the work area and equipment daily
using proper sanitary practices.
Newsletter Unit: Clients prepare a monthly bilingual newsletter. They write
articles, poetry and conduct interviews. Items are typed on the computer, “laid
out” and printed.
Arts and Crafts Unit: Clients make several different craft items. Projects are also
made for special occasions such as holidays
Retail Unit: Clients learn skills such as, ringing up sales, taking inventory,
stocking shelves, and record cash flow, while working in our Coffee and Thrift
Shops. Interpersonal skills are learned through their interactions with
customers.
Clerical Unit: Clients monitor the lunch program by enrolling members,
tabulating and recording lunch totals then entering this information into the
computer. They monitor PH program attendance and update sign-in sheets to
reflect active cases.
Mt. Carmel Guild also offers a Graduate Group. When clients “graduate” from
Partial Hospital or MICA, moving on to vocational, educational or volunteer
programs they may still benefit from some transitional support, which is
available through the late afternoon Graduate Group. In Graduate Group clients
have an opportunity to discuss the new psychosocial stressors they are now
experiencing since they have re-entered their community’s mainstream. This
program is held on Thursday evenings between 3:45 and 6pm. A psychiatrist is
available to provide medication monitoring. Dinner is also served.
Hours of operation are Mon, Tues, Wed, and Fri 9am to 3pm; Thurs to 6pm
