Job Profile Deputy Chief Executive (Collections, Learning & Research) Purpose To support the Director & Chief Executive with articulating a shared vision for the Museum, proving strategic leadership and directing the development of innovative programmes and site improvements which safeguard, enrich and use the Museum’s Designated Collections. Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities Person Specification: (competencies, qualifications & experience) Responsibilities Essential To play a leading role in the strategic development of the Museum, as part of the Museum’s Leadership Team, and to deputise for the Chief Executive, as required. Accomplished track-record of successfully leading, developing and implementing a varied programme of public engagement in a museum, gallery or heritage setting of comparable size, complexity and national reputation. To direct the conception, research, planning and creative development of a high quality and integrated programme of visitor and public engagement across a wide range of activities and outputs - making best use of the Museum’s collections, including: formal education and public learning programmes, on-site living interpretation, published materials, exhibitions, digital outputs, performances and events. High-level leadership and management experience. To work with fellow Deputy Chief Executives to identify and pursue opportunities for ‘business’ growth and new funding. Proven track-record of large-scale project management. To formulate the Museum’s collecting policy to inform future collecting, acquisitions and site developments. To lead, manage and develop the Collections, Learning & Research Team. Significant experience of collections and curatorial management and best practice of an accredited/accessioned public collection. To play a major role in developing regional, national and international partnerships and collaborations in the realm of collections, learning and research, including as the principal point of contact for relevant professional bodies and government agencies, including Arts Council England, Association of European Open Air Museums, Museums Association, universities, national museums, research libraries and archives, and broadcasters. Relevant post-graduate qualification. High-level historical research skills, resulting in the ability to generate original content using source materials in written form and through the study of material culture. National and/or international reputation/recognition in the field of social and/or industrial history relevant to the Museum. Wide-ranging and well-established professional networks.
