Historical Figure Assignment You have been given the name of someone important in United States history. Many of you who have had brothers or sisters in the 5th grade in the past are familiar with this assignment. You will be required to research the person you have been assigned. Research sources can include internet research, books from the school or public libraries, encyclopedias, and the Social Studies text book. The presentation schedule is attached. On your assigned date, you will perform a chautauqua presentation in which you will “become” the famous person. You will dress in character and give a talk to the class. There is NOT a written report that is due. You will talk to the class as if you really are that person and let them know what you did, why you are important, and how United States history might have been different without you. You may use no more than three 3x5 note cards to assist you during the presentation, but the cards should not be read. You should instead list key words or phrases to help you remember what you want to say. You may include maps, charts, props, etc. to add to your presentations. Each presentation should last at least 5 minutes and no more than 10. In order to help you prepare your presentation, you need to list 10 important facts about your person on the attached form. I will collect the lists from everyone on FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 28th. I will check your list and make sure you are on track. I will return the list to you with comments so you will know if you are headed in the right direction.
