corporation which a member of his/her family controls, will receive remuneration directly or
indirectly.
4. Has performed such activities while accepting remuneration directly or indirectly for employment
in another capacity for an employer or member of the said employer’s family who owns, boards or
trains the involved horse.
5. Has ridden, driven or exhibited in halter in horse shows any horse he/she or a member of his/her

Rule Explanation:
Basically, the rule means that anyone who is employed by a training establishment to do duties
other than riding, breaking, training, schooling, driving, showing or preparing halter horses is eligible
to be an amateur. Spouses and immediate family of a trainer are also able to be an amateur as long
as they are not involved with the breaking, training, schooling, riding or showing of any of the horses
the trainer is being paid to work with. People who board horses are eligible for amateur status as
long as they do not ride, show, train or do any of the tasks in 1-5 of the rule, for the boarders. If they
did, they would be involved in receiving remuneration indirectly for those tasks upon payment of
boarding fees.
If you are not being paid money for any of those tasks in 1-5 of the rules, but are exchanging goods
or services for those tasks you would also be seen to be receiving remuneration indirectly.
3
Halter preparation has been included as a professional service as those preparing halter horses are
being paid for their duties in the same manner someone would be paid to train and/or show a horse
under saddle.
An Amateur is able to show someone else’s horse on occasion, in special circumstances, as long
as it is as a favour and they receive no reward in any way for the favour.
24

other competitors shall result in instant disqualification of all exhibits entered by the
offending exhibitor or handler.

SOUTH AUSTRALIAN CHAMPIONSHIP CUP
The aim of this event is to find the best presented and best conformed horse of the
Championships.
The class may be divided into heats of no more than 10 horses and if numbers warrant, a
semi final heat may also be run so that there are least 10 horse in the final. These heats are
to be judged as a ridden class. Horses that are dismissed in the heats will not continue in the
event. If there are no heats, all horses entered will compete in the final ridden class. The
ridden final will comprise of an individual workout for each horse. The judge will place the
horses in order 1- 10 (or the number that is in the class). After the saddle workouts the horses
will be excused from the ring to prepare for the led section. (Approximately 5 minutes). ONLY
HORSES PLACING 1-10 WILL BE CALLED BACK INTO THE ARENA ( IN NUMERICAL
ORDER) TO COMPETE IN THE LED SECTION OF THE EVENT. HORSES THAT DO NOT
PLACE 1-10 WILL NOT CONTINUE IN THE EVENT.
The 10 final horses will then compete in a conventional led class under another judge. The
judge will be asked to place the horses 1-10.
Points awarded in each section will be 10 for first to 1 for tenth. These scores will be added
together and the horse with the highest combined score shall be deemed the winner. In the
event of equal points, the horse gaining the highest place in the ridden section will be the
declared winner of the Championship Cup.
EACH HORSE MUST BE RIDDEN AND LED BY THE SAME COMPETITOR.
