a. Is each population in Hardy-Weinburg-Castle Equilibrium? (Show work). (12pts)
b. Are genotypes of both populations combined in compliance with HW? (10pts)
c. What are the standard errors and 95% confidence bounds for the frequency of X each
population? (12pts)
II/2. A ship infested with rats became was stranded on a Pacific Island in 1950. In 1972,
a survey team estimated that there were 10,000 rats on the island. Furthermore, they
estimated that the annual intrinsic rate of increase was 0.05 and that the population was
still growing exponentially.
a. How many rats were on the ship? (12pts)
b. If the ultimate carrying capacity for rats on the island is 100,000, what will be the
number of rats in the year 2000? (12pts)
Show all of your formulations and intermediate steps.
II/3. A total of 100 nucleotide sites were investigated. Five sites were found to be
polymorphic (see below) while the remaining 95 sites were invariant. What proportion of
the sites are polymorphic? What is the nucleotide polymorphism () and the 95%CI?
