Writing Activity in Far East Book 2, Lesson 1
(The Lesson of the Cocoon)
Abstract
This activity aims to show students’ creativity about sentences. In the textbook,
the students learn about how to write down a descriptive sentences in relative clauses
and adjectives. In this way, they need some more practice writing such clauses. Before
grouping, students must write down their own sentence with some describing words
such as adjectives or clauses. The students only need to write down one sentence and
the teacher will show some examples on the blackboard. Then, the teacher asks
students to divide into several groups with four to five students. They must share their
sentences with other group members. After that, they must try to combine others’
sentences in a short paragraph. There must be a topic for what they what to talk about.
In the combination, everyone’s sentences must be included. The students must to add
some sentences to make the paragraph more meaningful and more interesting. The
activity not only lets students brain-storm but also practice this sentence structure.
1st student: The girl with long hair is very cute.
2nd student: I go to the bookstore which is near the station everyday.
3rd student: My friend is nice and kind.
4th student: I saw a young man yesterday.
Time after School
 After school, I like to read some books in my free time, so I go
to the bookstore which is near the station everyday. Whenever
I go there, I see a girl with long hair. The girl with long hair is
very cute. After talking to her, I found that she is also a senior
high student. She has no boyfriend, so I want to introduce my
friend to her who is nice and kind. However, I saw a young
man yesterday, who talked to the girl happily. So I’m not sure
that if it is correct to introduce my friend to her.
