PART TIME 0.6 – 0.8 FTE (MATERNITY)

We are seeking to appoint a high quality, enthusiastic, flexible and well qualified
teacher of girls PE to play a significant role in the further development and
continued success of Physical Education at the College.
The Physical Education department has 10 teaching staff working in it and provides
a friendly, professional and supportive environment in which to work. We have
excellent facilities which include a 3G pitch, large Sports Hall, a Gym, Fitness Suite,
floodlit tennis courts and a tennis Dome which also houses trampolining and gym
equipment and extensive playing fields.
The successful candidate must be willing and able to teach core PE and subject
related examination courses to students in Key Stages 3, 4 and preferably 5.
Examination courses include BTEC First Award Level 1 / 2 Sport, GCSE PE, A level PE
and Level 3 Sport BTEC Diploma and Extended Diploma pathways. The successful
applicant will have particular strengths and interests and we are keen to support
and enable them to use these fully. The successful applicant must have a strong
commitment to extra-curricular activities. A curriculum vitae should be provided

Callington is a forward and outward looking rural community college that strives to

The College serves a region bordered on the east by the River Tamar and on the
west by Bodmin Moor. The great majority of our students travel into Callington from
the surrounding villages.
Callington is a full International School. The quality of our provision for out-of-hours
learning is outstanding (QISS Advanced status).
Callington Community College has many strengths – its curriculum, staff
development, a wide range of extra-curricular activities and excellent student
relationships. Facilities include a Community Sports Centre, a two court indoor
Tennis Dome, Callington Town Library, Communication Hub (CHiiL), The Hambly
Centre (incorporating The Globe – a focus for our International work, and suite of
rooms where provision for Supporting Children and Families is located), Tic-Tac
student advice centre, a Space Centre and extensive grounds.

TEACHER OF PHYSICAL EDUCATION
PERSON SPECIFICATION
The successful candidate should be able to demonstrate:
 Excellent communication skills: aural, oral and written
 Efficient and effective organisation
 An understanding of current educational issues
 An ability, experience and willingness to teach and assess Physical Education to
students in all key stages. The ability to teach Sport BTEC to Level 3 would be
desirable.
 An interest in differentiation and varied teaching and learning styles as a means
of encouraging and motivating all students to achieve their best

An ability and willingness to work as a highly effective member of a team
 A commitment to comprehensive education
 A commitment to community involvement
 A commitment to the education of the individual child
 A strong working knowledge of ICT in their teaching
 A good subject knowledge of Physical Education but also a curiosity to learn
when the need arises
