Have you completed the scrap tire survey?
The scrap tire survey will gather information that can help to locate and establish approximate quantities
of scrap tires in municipal landfills not already cleared of scrap tires and on private property. Help the
Saskatchewan Scrap Tire Corporation plan the final stages of clean-up work. They have a short, easy-toanswer survey available online. You can find the survey by clicking on this link:

City engineers share their ‘most wanted’ list
City engineers are thinking “innovation” and welcomed recent meetings with Communities of Tomorrow to
work on a “most wanted” list of infrastructure challenges. One-on-one meetings were held with engineers
in Saskatchewan’s 13 largest urban municipalities. They explored the need and desire for innovation in
municipal systems, and the level of interest in developing partnerships through Communities of
Tomorrow. Some common areas of interest include: road and sidewalk issues, water supply,
treatment and distribution issues, waste collection and treatment issues and solid waste disposal

Provincial recycling program details being finalized
The province recently announced a new program that will provide bridge financing for municipal recycling
programs until an industry-led, province-wide Multi-Material Recycling program (MMRP) is launched.
SUMA will be administering the program on behalf of the Ministry of Environment. Details, such as
eligibility criteria, are not yet available. SUMA will share more details once the terms and process of

Is your organization considering energy improvements?
Natural Resources Canada's Office of Energy Efficiency (OEE) offers the ecoENERGY Retrofit Incentive
for Buildings to assist owners and operators of small and medium-sized buildings to implement energy
retrofit projects that reduce energy consumption, increase competitiveness and produce a healthier and
more comfortable workspace. Dozens of organizations have already finished their projects and have
received incentive payments for retrofit projects in small and medium-sized buildings across the country.
To assist your municipality in this process, the OEE has created a “Sample Pre-Project Energy Audit”
that you can use as a guide. Get more information.
Saskatoon receives Green Municipal Fund grant
The Federation of Canadian Municipality's (FCM) Green Municipal Fund program supports municipal
initiatives across Canada that benefit the environment, local economies and quality of life. The City of
Saskatoon has recently received a GMF grant that will support a feasibility study to support local
sustainability. Read the media release.
ACT grant application deadline is April 24
Affordability and Choice Today (ACT) encourages housing affordability and choice through regulatory
reform. The program is funded by Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation and delivered by the
Federation of Canadian Municipalities in collaboration with the Canadian Home Builders’ Association and
the Canadian Housing and Renewal Association. ACT offers grants of up to $5,000. The application form
