AANA = American Association of Nurse Anesthetists The AANA was founded in 1931 in Park Ridge, IL. It is a professional organization for more than 90% of the nation's CRNAs. The mission is to assure a certification process for perianesthesia nurses that validates the knowledge through professional education and experience, ultimately promoting quality patient care. ACMA = American Case Management Association It is a national organization for Case Management nurses, physicians, social workers, and leadership and its goal is to offer solutions to support the evolving collaborative practice of Case Management staff employed in hospitals/health systems. There is an active local Illinois chapter for Case Management nurses, physicians, managers, and social workers who reside or work in the Chicago metropolitan area, and there are annual Illinois chapter conferences (usually at the Rosemont) and yearly national conferences. SGNA carries out its mission by advancing the science and practice of gastroenterology and endoscopy nursing through education, research, advocacy, and collaboration, and by promoting the professional development of its members in an atmosphere of mutual support.” The society was established in 1973 and the first certification exams were offered in the late 1980’s. Organization membership includes 6 annual issues of Gastroenterology Nursing and a subscription to the SGNA newsletter, certification discounts, employment networking, and reduced registration fees for national education courses and independent study module contact hours. There are 63 local chapters throughout the United States and the headquarters is located in Chicago.
