SP Green Buddy Award 2005
~ PLEASE REFER TO THE NOMINATION FORM ON PAGE 3 ~
Background
The Ministry of the Environment launched the ‘Green Leaf Award’ at the 1991
Clean and Green Week campaign. Since then the award is presented annually by the
Minister of the Environment, during ‘Clean and Green Week’, to individuals, youths
and organisations who have made outstanding contributions to the preservation of the
local environment. SP was a winner of the Green Leaf Award in 1999.
This year, the National Environment Agency (NEA), a statutory board formed by the
Ministry of the Environment (now renamed as the Ministry of the Environment and
Water Resources) launched the inaugural Singapore Green Plan (SGP) 2012 Awards
which build on the former Green Leaf Award. These awards also recognize
outstanding individuals, organisations and companies that are role models of
environmental protection and have contributed significantly to Singapore’s effort to
achieve environmental sustainability and attain some of the targets set out in the SGP
2012. The SGP 2012 is Singapore’s blueprint for environmental sustainability.
The SP Green Committee initiated the Green Buddy Awards in 2000 for SP staff,
students and Schools/Departments. Since then we have identified, recognised and
rewarded several champions – staff, students and Schools/Departments. We would
like to continue with the Green Buddy Award and entrench the position of SP in its
support of the national effort of the Singapore Green Plan.
Objectives
To recognise Schools/Departments, staff and students who have over the one-year
period (within the last 12 months), suggested/implemented effective programs for
either the promotion or implementation of Green activities at the Singapore
Polytechnic level.
The Award
The Green Buddy Award will be presented annually in three categories, viz. ‘Staff’
category, ‘Student’ category and ‘School/ Department’ category during the Clean and
Green Week celebration.
