2. Long Term Goals
Briefly state your long-term career goals:
My long- term career goal is to transition to full-time position in next 5 years. At
that point, I hope to start the process of qualifying for the clinical career track.
3. One Year Goals and Plans
Each of the following sections asks you to provide goals and activities for the next year.
Please check with your Division Administrative Director about your current effort
allocation percentage among the activities below. If you would like to request a
change in allocation, please provide additional detail in the appropriate section.
Please review these goals with your division head or program director and the extent to
which you do or do not achieve them. Where appropriate, indicate barriers to meeting
your responsibilities and steps needed to reduce or eliminate those barriers.
I. Clinical Service
List:
1) I have in-patient responsibilities approx 52 weeks/year
2) I am responsible for supervising residents, new-hire hospitalists and
NNP in the delivery room, newborn nurseries and NICU teams
3) As the MD on Team 3 and 4 overnight, I am the primary person with
whom parents/NICU nurses, L/D nurses, Normal Newborn Nurses
and outside Pediatricians communicate
4) I am currently participating in quality initiatives to ensure patient
safety and improving parent satisfaction in NICU
Indicate ways in which your clinical work can improve, with reasons and
suggestions for means to achieve improvement:
1) I intend to invest in broadening my knowledge base in the newest
clinical concepts in Neonatology by attending more internal and
external conferences
2) My goal is to boost my existing skill set by performing more clinical
procedures per year (i.e., IV’s, Umbilical lines, intubation of premature
infants, chest tubes)
3) Another goal is to become familiar with a variety of ventilators so I can
provide coverage for the multiple NICU teams/services
4) My overall goal is to provide service on the Delivery/code team, and also
transition back into the NICU hospitalist team within the year

II. Educational Activity
List:
1) Supervision of Hospitalists, NNP’s, PL-1 and PL-3 in delivery room
2) Morning conferences for residents (1-3 times/year). These include,
hyperbilirubinemia, delivery room management, NNN consult
scenarios and other topics important to Resident Education
3) Bedside, night-time teaching of Residents in NICU
4) Informal Liaison between NICU hospitalists and Chief Residents.
Attend Resident education meetings to discuss ways to improve
resident education in the NICU at Prentice
Indicate how your educational involvement can improve, as above:
1) Will continue to participate in new initiative to have residents be the
first-responder in delivery room, i.e., residents at head of bed during
resuscitation with Hospitalist next to them providing support and
guidance.
Are any changes in your effort allocation in this area warranted or desirable? If
so, please describe rationale and objectives.
1) Currently working to develop tool, which can be used to evaluate
new hospitalists, NNP’s and residents in the delivery room skills.
2) Create structured learning for residents in NICU overnight, in the
delivery room and in NNN
3) Goal to develop regularly scheduled “skills clinics” for
hospitalists, NNP to enhance experience with procedural skills
(umbilical lines, intubation, chest tubes, etc)

4) Working on various aspects of initiative to have CMH hospitalists
enhance experience by spending 2-3 months/year rotating
through Prentice NICU/delivery service
5) Goal to enhance resident educational experience in the Normal
Newborn Nurseries by providing increased opportunity for
hospitalist teaching rounds
III. Scholarly Activity
List:
1) I currently do not participate in research

List 1-3 goals for your scholarly activity for the next year (e.g., submit RO-1,
submit 4 manuscripts based on current research to peer-reviewed journals, etc.):
1) One long-term goal is to participate in clinical research conducted in
the Prentice NICU
IV. Administrative activities
List:
1) I am currently the Site Leader for Prentice NICU
2) I meet weekly with the Medical Directory, Dr. Khan, approximately
monthly with Dr. Steinhorn, and also attend regularly scheduled Site
Leader meetings.
3) I am responsible for recruiting hospitalists for Prentice NICU, which
includes meetings with Tina Pell-Doyle, interviews, etc
4) I arrange regular meetings of the hospitalists at Prentice. I Encourage
and support the other hospitalists in the group to achieve personal
goals.
5) I am currently participating in the development of the Mother/Baby
Unit in the NNN at prentice. This includes meetings with the medical
director, nursing coordinators and various hospitalists involved.
6) I meet regularly with Dr. Deddish, Dr. Purdy regarding the
complicated schedule at Prentice. This task incorporates a
significant amount of administrative time

I am new to the site leader position and will continue to learn the
various responsibilities involved.

1) Increase efficiency in administrative tasks to free up time to
effectively participate in educational goals
2) Goal to investigate ways to decrease the significant amount of
time currently needed to be spent on the schedule at Prentice
3) Enhance the support for hospitalists at Prentice by facilitating
regular meetings with Neonatology
V. Advocacy
