Referral Monitoring Services VCA Paradise Emergency Animal Hospital (PVEAH) is commited to the referral veterinarian. VCA PVEAH is only open during evenings and weekends to help support referring doctors continued excellent care of their patients. Further , VCA PVEAH understands the concerns of the referal veterinarians on the expense of emergency care. It is with this sentiment the VCA PVEAH offers the following packages for standardized overnight care. These programs are for the treatment of the stabilized post-surgical patient, renal disease diursis patient and stabilized seizuring patient. These services are only available to our referring veterinarians on their stable patients. To utilize these services, , the referring veterinarian must: Contact the doctor on shift via phone and outline the patient’s care. Fill out the referral form and treatment sheets either in written or electronic format. Confirm acceptance of case by our emergency veterinarian. Once all the above objectives are finalized, the client will bring in the patient for overnight care. The patient will be admitted by our staff and monitored overnight based on the agreed upon treatment protocols. If there is any change in the patient’s stability, the referring veterinarian and client will be contacted immediately for an update. On the next weekday morning, the patient will be returned to the referring hospital for continued care. These overnight monitoring services will be made available for one flat fee (or estimate range). However any changes in the patient’s condition that requires new treatments or clinical diagnostics will increase overall expenses for the client. An overview of cost estimates are: Post-operative Surgical Monitoring General: This service is for stable patients that more require continued intravenous fluids, baseline diagnostic monitoring, and injectable pain and antibiotic medications. These patients are generally stable with a patent intravenous catheter in place and do not require intravenous fluid therapy. These patients are generally stable and do not require advanced monitoring which may include but is not limited to radiography, electrocardiogram, blood gas or other monitoring modality. Further patients would not require oxygen support or advanced treatment protocols (i.e. blood transfusion, plasma transfusions, administration of Hetastarch…). Services: The fee includes: Transfer Examination Hospitalization – Nursing Care for 15 hours Continued Intravenous Fluid Therapy Blood Pressure Monitoring Minimal Clinical Database (1) – Packed Cell Volume, Total Protein, Blood Urea Nitrogen, Electrolytes and Glucose Antibiotic Injections (0-2) Pain Medication Injections (0-3) If the on shift veterinarian had medical concerns to the patient’s stability, they will discuss changes in the patient’s status with both the veterinarian and the client. Fee: $600.00 Procedure: In order to have service available, the referring veterinarian will need to fill out a VCA PVEAH referral form, treatment sheet and contact a veterinarian on shift. If there is any change in the patient’s stability the referring veterinarian and client will be contacted immediately for an update. Changes in diagnostics and treatment plan will effect the cost of services. Seizuring Monitoring General: This service is for stable patients that more require monitoring for continued seizure activity. These patients are generally stable with a patent intravenous catheter in place and do not require intravenous fluid therapy. These patients are not having constant seizure episodes or are in status epilepticus, but rather need monitoring for occasional seizure control. These patients are generally stable and do not require advanced monitoring which may include but is not limited to radiography, electrocardiogram, blood gas or other monitoring modality. Further patients would not require oxygen support or advanced treatment protocols (i.e. blood transfusion, plasma transfusions, administration of Hetastarch…). Services: The fee includes: Transfer Examination Hospitalization – Nursing Care for 15 hours Blood Pressure Monitoring at regular intervals Minimal Clinical Database (1) – Packed Cell Volume, Total Protein, Blood Urea Nitrogen, Electrolytes and Glucose Diazepam Injections (0-4) Phenobarbital Injections (0-2) If the on shift veterinarian had medical concerns to the patient’s stability, they will discuss changes in the patient’s status with both the veterinarian and the client. Fee: $ 450.00 Procedure: In order to have service available, the referring veterinarian will need to fill out a PVEAH referral form, treatment sheet and contact a veterinarian on shift. If there is any change in the patient’s stability or seizure status the referring veterinarian and client will be contacted immediately for an update. Changes in diagnostics and treatment plan will effect the cost of services. Hospitalization for Diuresis General: This service is for stable patients that more require continued intravenous fluids, baseline diagnostic monitoring, and injectable anti-nausea medications for patients requiring prolonged diueresis. These patients are generally stable with a patent intravenous catheter in place and require intravenous fluid therapy. These patients are generally stable and do not require advanced monitoring which may include but is not limited to radiography, electrocardiogram, blood gas or other monitoring modality. Further patients would not require oxygen support or advanced treatment protocols (i.e. blood transfusion, plasma transfusions, administration of Hetastarch…). Services: The fee includes: Transfer Examination Hospitalization – Nursing Care for 15 hours Continued IV fluid therapy Blood Pressure Monitoring Minimal Clinical Database (1) – Packed Cell Volume, Total Protein, Blood Urea Nitrogen, Electrolytes and Glucose Anti-Nausea Injections (1) If the on shift veterinarian had medical concerns to the patient’s stability, they will discuss changes in the patient’s status with both the veterinarian and the client. Fee: $ 500.00. This service can be also made available for 24 hour care. The service includes: Transfer Examination Hospitalization – Nursing Care for 24 hours Continued IV fluid therapy Blood Pressure Monitoring Minimal Clinical Database (1) – Packed Cell Volume, Total Protein, Blood Urea Nitrogen, Electrolytes and Glucose Anti-Nausea Injections (2) Fee: $ 700.00 A full weekend of Diuresis would combine 62 hours of the above listed care: $ 1900.00 Procedure: In order to have service available, the referring veterinarian will need to fill out a PVEAH referral form, treatment sheet and contact a veterinarian on shift.
