20152016 Next2Disney Hurricane Emergency Packet www.next2disney.com Caroline Nicotera 2015-2016 Next2Disney Hurricane Emergency Packet Everyone needs to be prepared for the unexpected. Vacationing is no exception…Hurricanes are part of Florida’s weather pattern and occur during the late August early Fall season in Florida. We always advise our guests to purchase Travel Insurance for cost coverage and reimbursement. In addition to knowing about the weather…as it rains daily during the summer months in Kissimmee in the afternoon around 3pm for about 10-20 mins….you should also know that Windsor Hills Resort offers shelter in the event of a Hurricane. Our Villa is extremely well built, but the Resort asks that during a mandatory evacuation, all guests meet at the Clubhouse for shelter and further instructions. Stay tuned to the weather channel and keep towels next to the slider as the pool could overflow and run off can occur under the slider. When a hurricane is approaching Florida, it is many days off with the tracking and starts as a tropical storm. When this occurs, be alert as the speed of the Tropical Storm can be upgraded quickly and can become a dangerous storm rapidly. Sleep with your cellphone in arms length for weather updates. Emergency Plans – Decide to stay or leave depending on the severity of the storm. www.next2disney.com Emergency Hurricane Packet for Guests all rights reserved 2015-2016 Evacuation Allow for enough time to pack and inform friends and family if you need to leave your home. FOLLOW instructions issued by local officials. Leave immediately if ordered! Consider your protection options to decide whether to stay or evacuate your home if you are not ordered to evacuate. When waiting out a storm be careful, the danger may not be over yet... Be alert for: Tornadoes – they are often spawned by hurricanes. The calm "eye" of the storm – it may seem like the storm is over, but after the eye passes, the winds will change direction and quickly return to hurricane force. Recover Wait until an area is declared safe before returning home. Remember that recovering from a disaster is usually a gradual process. Evacuating Yourself and Your Family Prepare now in the event of an evacuation. Evacuations are more common than many people realize, people along coastlines evacuate as hurricanes approach. In some circumstances, local officials decide that the hazards are serious and require mandatory evacuations. In others, evacuations are advised or households decide to evacuate to avoid situations they believe are potentially dangerous. www.next2disney.com Emergency Hurricane Packet for Guests all rights reserved 2015-2016 When community evacuations become necessary local officials provide information to the public through the media. In some circumstances, other warning methods, such as sirens, text alerts, emails or telephone calls are used. The amount of time you have to leave will depend on the hazard. If the event is a weather condition, such as a hurricane, you might have a day or two to get ready. However, many disasters allow no time for people to gather even the most basic necessities, which is why planning ahead is essential. Next2Disney offers an emergency kit and first aide kit for guests. There may be conditions under which you will decide to get away or there may be situations when you are ordered to leave. Follow these guidelines for evacuation: Plan places where your family will meet, both within and outside of your immediate neighborhood. Use the Family Emergency Plan to decide these locations before a disaster. If you have a car, keep a full tank of gas in it if an evacuation seems likely. Keep a half tank of gas in it at all times in case of an unexpected need to evacuate. Gas stations may be closed during emergencies and unable to pump gas during power outages. Plan to take one car per family to reduce congestion and delay. Become familiar with alternate routes and other means of transportation out of your area. Choose several destinations in different directions so you have options in an emergency. Leave early enough to avoid being trapped by severe weather. Follow recommended evacuation routes. Do not take shortcuts; they may be blocked. Be alert for road hazards such as washed-out roads or bridges and downed power lines. Do not drive into flooded areas. If you do not have a car, plan how you will leave if you have to. Make arrangements with family, friends or your local government. www.next2disney.com Emergency Hurricane Packet for Guests all rights reserved 2015-2016 Take your emergency supply kit unless you have reason to believe it has been contaminated. Listen to a battery-powered radio and follow local evacuation instructions. Take your pets with you, but understand that only service animals may be permitted in public shelters. Plan how you will care for your pets in an emergency. If time allows: Call or email the out-of-state contact in your family communications plan. Tell them where you are going. Secure your home by closing and locking doors and windows. Unplug electrical equipment such as radios, televisions and small appliances. Leave freezers and refrigerators plugged in unless there is a risk of flooding. If there is damage to your home and you are instructed to do so, shut off water, gas and electricity before leaving. Leave a note telling others when you left and where you are going. Wear sturdy shoes and clothing that provides some protection such as long pants, long-sleeved shirts and a cap. Check with neighbors who may need a ride. PLEASE TAKE A MOMENT TO ORGANIZE THE LANAI AS TIME ALLOWS..REMOVING ALL PERSONAL BELONGINGS. STACK THE FURNITURE BEHIND THE LOCKING SCREEN. CLOSE THE BLINDS TO PROTECT AGAINST ANY FLYING DEBRIS IN THE EVENT OF HIGH WIND. BE READY TO EVACUATE TO THE CLUBHOUSE IF NECESSARY- WINDSOR HILLS HAS A 24 HOUR STAFF AND WILL DIRECT YOUR MOVES FOR AN EVACUATION. IT IS A GOOD IDEA TO SHOWER AND HAVE A BAG PACKED IF YOU FEEL THAT THE WEATHER HAS DOWNGRADED QUICKLY.
