Forreston Friskies 4-H Club Local Achievement Reported by Cassie Smith Forreston Friskies members met out at Prairie Dell Church on Sunday, January 16th to make Homemade Pizzas. We got busy making Margherita pita pizzas, Onion-Herb Focaccia, Apple-Cheddar , Banana-Chocolate, Pepperoni , BBQ Chicken, Alfredo Chicken, Meat-lovers, Veggie lovers and My Mother-in Law’s Cream Cheese Coffee Cake Braid for dessert. They also chopped a lettuce salad and warmed garlic bread for the lasagna. We had tons of fun and enjoyed tons of food. During down times, we worked on Hoards Dairyman Judging, through ideas around about our upcoming Penny Carnival event on March 12th and made ball ornaments before families came out to enjoy the fruits of our labor. Daniel Ludwig led us in Prayer before our meal. We enjoyed good food and good conversation. After a good clean up, it was time for our reflection of the past year and things to come. Leader Vickie Smith went over the awards that we received as a club. Our club received award in the areas of 4-H Honor Clubs patch, traveling trophies in Home & Family and Personal Development, certificates in 4-H International, Fall Club Promotion and Window Display Promotion. She also went over how we made it possible. Why we do them and what to look forward in this coming year. Members were recognized for their key parts in the club and how important they are to the club. For the members that were there that night they received a trophy and tote bag. Members were Daniel Ludwig, Kendal Kuelling, Ian Lundstrand, MJ Griffiths, Chris Forney, Jeff Pingel, Ethan Shores, Marty Reeser, Cassie Smith and Haley Shores. Our Jr. Leaders Cassie Smith and Haley Shores were thanked for the work they do with teambuilding, community and culture for the younger 4-H members. Members that finished records and were recognized at County Achievement in November for last years records were Kendal Kuelling who received the “I Dare You” award that goes to 4-Hers who show outstanding leadership potential, citizenship, and project work. He also received Gold in his project area of Poultry and was one of Ogle Top 30 in his project area. Jeff Pingel for Do your own Thing received gold, Daniel Ludwig received gold for Beef and he also was Ogle Top 30 in his project area, Ethan Shores gold in Electricity and was Ogle Top 30, Marty -Ray Reeser gold in Rabbits and Ogle Top 30, Haley Shores received gold in her project area of Visual Arts and Cassie Smith gold in Rabbits. Last years bowling teams that were given their awards were Daniel Ludwig for Jr. High Game of 148 pins, Cassie Smith for Sr. Game of 230 pins and Sr. High Series of 433 pins. Championship Jr. Team of Daniel Ludwig, Ethan Shores and Kendal Kuelling took 1st place with 662 pin count. Coming in 2nd place with a pin count of 777 for the Sr. team was Cassie Smith, Haley Shores and Ashley Burger. Out going 2009-2010 officers were recognized as President- Kendal Kuelling, Vice-president- Daniel Ludwig, Treasurer- Cassie Smith, Reporter-Kelsie Joens, Historian- Ethan Shores, Recreation-Jeff Pingel and Sentinel- Devan Joens. This years 2010-2011 officers are President-Daniel Ludwig , Vice-presidentJeff Pingel , Treasurer-Ethan Shores , Reporter-Cassie Smith , Historian-Devan Joens , RecreationKendal Kuelling and Sentinel- Marty Reeser. Also recognized was Dorene Shores, one of our great leaders that has been showing us the way for 15 years. She puts the fun in our club by giving us great ideas of thing to explore with fun always the main goal in mind. We are very lucky to have her guiding us along with Thelma Meeks and Vickie Smith, we could not have it any better. Although DO NOT ride in a car with them, trust me, they sing songs and it‘s not at all what we kids listen to either, other then that it‘s all good. Everyone left with full bellies and a great out look of more to come in this 4-H year. Our next business meeting will be February 7th at the Forreston Township Building starting at 6:00.
