Access Statement for Ashburton Country House Introduction Ashburton Country House is an executive Bed & Breakfast located in Chorleywood, Hertfordshire, which has good access to motorways, trains and airports. It caters for all types of travelers, both business people and tourists. Booking. Information about Ashburton Country House is either by word of mouth, tourist information books, or on the internet. Links connect to the website www.ashburtonhouse.co.uk Enquiries are normally made by email or phone. Information is given and taken by email, but credit card details are only taken by phone and booking confirmation is by phone only, except where credit card information has already been taken. Then emails can be exchanged as confirmation. Security procedures are in operation. Payment Credit card details must be given at time of booking. No payment is taken at time of booking. There is a 48 hour cancellation charge. Payment can be made by credit card, cash or cheque. Pre-Arrival • The London Underground and the Chiltern Railway are both within 12 minutes walking distance. There is adequate parking there for those using the train. • Bus stops are available at the local station. Both of these are served by Taxis. J17 of the M25 motorway is a 5 minute drive away. The M1 and M40 are linked straight to it. Heathrow Airport is a 20 minute drive away, subject to traffic. Luton is 40 minutes drive. Taxis can be booked to collect from airports. • The local area has sites of historic interest, including Chenies Manor which dates from the 1500 ( the house, garden and tea room are open to the public from Easter to the end of October, on Wednesday and Thursday afternoons and bank Holidays,) Jordans Village, the home of the Quakers, before sailing in The Mayflower to The New World, Amersham, Milton’s Cottege, in Chalfont St. Giles, The Chiltern Open Air Museum, The Shire Horse Centre, St. Albans Cathedral, Windsor Castle and Lego Land are just some of the attractions, all within easy driving distance. The train journey to the centre of London takes just 25 minutes and a day Travel card is a very accessible way to reach the museums, art galleries and theatres of the Capital. Arrival & Car Parking Facilities Taxis can be arranged at time of booking, the taxi rank is next to the station. • Off street parking is provided for all guests cars, up to 20 ft long. • Parking spaces are clearly marked at the front of the premises. Main Entrance, Reception • The Entrance to the property is up a short number of steps which makes wheel chair access difficult and is not recommended for the disabled. • Inside the building there is a large reception area which opens into the guest sitting room, dining room and downstairs w.c. Hall, Stairs, Landing, Corridors etc • The hall is spacious, with wide stairs and hand rail, giving easy access to the first floor bedroom areas. There is no lift in the property. All corridors are well lit. Maps and transport information are on display in the hall area. Bedrooms. All rooms have ensuite facilities, with shower and/or baths A selection of tea/ coffee/ chocolate making facilities are provided, with high quality biscuits Reading material, free view TV’s, radio alarm clocks, bedside lights, easy chairs and tables, dressing gowns and slippers, tissues, dimmer switches on lights, security safes, trouser presses, hair dryers, fresh fruit, jigsaws, bottled water, selection of glasses and other creature comforts are in each room. Under floor heating makes sure there is a steady temperature. Windows open into the garden. Beds are of a high standard, with high quality bedding, non feather duvets and pillows. There are either super king size or twin. One rooms has a 4 poster bed. Bathrooms All rooms are ensuite and have baths/showers or both. Floors are tiled. Towels are of a high standard and are changed as requested. Heated towel rails ensure warm towels. Toiletries are condenser type such as Molton Brown, to eliminate unnecessary packaging, but individual items can be supplied if preferred. In the case of forgotten items, toothpaste etc. is always available Dining Room. • Breakfast is served in the dining room, between 7.15am and 9.30am A menu is provided with a selection of good quality cereals, bread, fresh fruit salad, yoghurt, croissants, Continental and Full Cooked English breakfast, choice of Omelets, and savory dishes. Selection of teas and coffee. Special diets such as dairy, wheat and gluten free, diabetic and vegetarian are catered for, with prior notice. Large print menus for the partially sighted are available. Sitting room, • A large, quiet, sitting room overlooking the garden, is provided for guests and their visitors, with relaxing easy chairs and reading material. Toilet • On the lower ground floor there is a toilet for use by guests or their visitors Garden The garden is available for guests use and is accessed through the dining room. Guests are very welcome to bring their own alcoholic drinks and use the facilities, such as the tables and chairs, seat cushions, and arbor. The rose covered arbor is an excellent place to take photographs. Wine glasses and bottle openers are provided in all the bedrooms and ice buckets are available for that special occasion. Local Restaurants, Take Away & Cafe • There are many good local eating houses, restaurants and good pubs takeaways and cafes, within walking and driving distance and we would be happy to advise guests on the selection available or make a prior reservation. Laundry • There is a self service laundry and dry cleaners, in the village. Drying facilities are provided on site and there is an iron and board on the landing for guests use. • There is a small mini bar on the landing, with soft drinks and snacks. Shops • There is a varied selection of shops, banks, cash machines, delicatessens, restaurants and estate agents, in the village and larger shopping centers with department stores, such as Watford and Uxbridge, are a short drive away. Treatment room/s • A number of Men’s and Ladies Hairdressers and beauty shops do operate in the village. These offer all the normal types of services that are available in a large town. Leisure Facilities • Visitor will find a number of local Leisure Centers including swimming pools , horse riding, , golf courses, fishing, water skiing, cinemas and bowling alleys, dry ski slope, as well as well planned country walks. Additional Information • All rooms have instructions regarding emergency exits and procedures in the case of fire or other unexpected events. • All rooms have radio linked heat/smoke/fire alarms. • This property is suitable for allergy sufferers, through not having feathers or animals on site. There are steps up to the front door and all bedrooms are upstairs, making it unsuitable for the walking challenged. The stairs are wide and have shallow steps and a hand rail. Help can be given to those needing signing assistance. Two bathrooms have walk in showers and a stool can be provided for the elderly. There are no steps in these bathrooms. Large print menus are available. • The property is totally Non Smoking and we only allow smoking outside of the buildings. Special events broadcast on Sky Sports can be transferred to rooms. •There is free WiFi connection to the Internet in all rooms. • We are able to provide small fridges in rooms, for the storage of specialized medicines. Adaptors are available for overseas guests Several take away’s provide delivery services. Meals can be eaten in the dining room, and plates and cutlery provided. Snacks may be eaten in the bedrooms. High quality pay as you go mobile phones can be rented for a small charge for those who have different network systems than their home countries. Solar Paneling provides partial energy.
