WELCOME WEEK PROGRAMME
Your first meeting is at 11.00 OR 12.00 on Monday 28th September in NE.101
(Newton Building)
Welcome to the Institute for Education. We hope you will find your studies a stimulating
and worthwhile experience of higher education. Our Welcome Week is to help you to meet
people and to feel welcome at the University. On Monday you will be meeting with the
Education Tutors who will be able to help you with any queries. All the information you
need will be given to you at the various meetings this week.
During the week you will also be doing the necessary preliminary activities such as
completing the Registration process and finalising your choice of subject modules. All single
honours students (Education Studies, Early Years Education, International Education,
Youth and Community Studies), including those who are following the Specialised Primary
Teaching pathway, have to select a complementary module to study alongside Education
in year one. You will need to make decisions about module choices and staff will be available
to guide you. Details will be provided at the various meetings this week. A list of the
complementary module choices is provided at the end of this booklet but a full Guide to
Level 4 (Year 1) Modules, including the complementary module choices, is available on the
BSU website here
Next week, you will also receive a detailed Education Studies Student Handbook. Over the
next 2 weeks there will be further introductions to the degree programme and to the various
resources designed to support you whilst at university. This booklet includes the basic
information you will need for Welcome Week.
By the end of the week you will have your timetable for the year ready for the following
week when teaching begins.
Welcome week can seem quite daunting for everyone. There are people and places to find,
decisions to take and there will be some waiting in queues! There are subject presentations
and meetings in lots of different rooms all over the campus. The University staff do
everything they can to make this as easy as possible.
Tasks to do …
 Ensure you have registered your Bath Spa email account
 Study the Welcome Week timetable in this booklet to be clear about what you are
doing on each day – attend all the sessions!
 Think about your choice of modules – more guidance will be given to you at various
meetings
 Keep this booklet with you
We look forward to working with you and wish you every success at the University.
