NEW ANTIQUES SHOP TO OFFICIALLY OPEN IN BRIGHTON’S ANTIQUES QUARTER ON MAY 30 -FAMILIAR FACE MARK STACEY TO OPEN ‘RETRO’ SHOP ON ST JAMES’S STREET- YOU MIGHT have already spotted it, but the distinctive ‘Wedgwood’ blue shop at 72 St James’s Street in Brighton will be officially opened on Monday, May 30, 2011 at 4pm by TV personality Tim Wonnacott. ‘Vintiques’, in the heart of Kemptown’s Antiques Quarter is the brainchild of local resident and antiques expert Mark Stacey, who also appears on many of the BBC’s popular Antiques programmes. The shop will sell a vast selection of objects ranging from the 19th century to the present day including small pieces of furniture, ceramics, silver, glass, mirrors and paintings – with a strong emphasis on the retro. Prices will start at around £20. The shop will be open every day except Tuesday from 11am – 5pm, however objects can also be bought via the shops’s website www.vintiques.co.uk or by calling 01273 690274. Mark has been in the Antiques Trade for more than 20 years, firstly as a dealer and then working for world-famous auctioneers Sotheby’s and Bonhams. As he explained: “I first lived in Brighton 15 years ago and although I moved away, I was always coming back. Three and a half years ago, I had the chance to move back to live here. During my time at Sotheby’s, my eyes were opened to the wider market and the objects I was able to handle were wonderful – it was a magnificent learning curve! So therefore, when I was offered the opportunity to buy the shop in Kemptown – an area which I love because of it’s Bohemian feel - I jumped at the chance!” He continued: “When you visit the shop, you will see that the building is full of character and really quirky, which I instantly adored. It needed work, which we have just finished and it will look amazing with the mix of traditional antiques contrasted with Art Deco, vintage and retro pieces. I am delighted how the shop is looking and just last week, I picked up a wonderful Belgian chandelier from the Brussels Expo in 1958. I am hoping to hold a yearly selling exhibition in the shop, and this year I am planning to focus on the work of Lalique – so watch this space!” You can also follow Mark on twitter (@vintiquesbrighton) For further Press Information, please contact Rachel Aked Tel: 07790 732448/ email: rachel@rachelaked.co.uk NOTES TO EDITORS: Mark Stacey is one of the UK’s best-known and popular valuers, appearing for many years on BBC antiques shows such as Flog It, Bargain Hunt, Put Your Money Where Your Mouth Is and Antiques Road Trip as well as various BBC Radio Shows.
