Math Academic Intervention Services (AIS) Mrs. Salvatori Full Year 2014 - 2015 Course Syllabus: Welcome to Academic Intervention Services (AIS) for mathematics. The AIS program is designed to prepare students for the state math assessments given in May and to help students achieve success with the New York State Mathematics curriculum. I will work with students in small groups as well as individually to fulfill the course objectives. The Board of Regents adopted revisions to the Commissioner of Education’s regulation requiring school districts to provide academic intervention services to students who score below New York State’s designated performance level on state assessments and/or who are at risk of not achieving the state learning standards. Students who meet the eligibility requirements for AIS are mandated to attend. Course Objectives: 1. 2. 3. 4. To remediate as needed. To reinforce basic concepts daily. To increase student ability and confidence in mathematics. To develop or enhance a system of organization and self-discipline. Course Outline: This class is aligned with the New York State curriculum. Topics are similar to those covered in the regular math class, though they may not be covered in the same order or at the same time. This course will also concentrate on problem solving and mathematical reasoning as well as communication, connections, and representation of mathematical concepts. Supplies Needed: 1. 2 Sharpened Pencils 2. Scientific Calculator Recommended 3. Your AIS folder. (Will be left in classroom) Class Expectations: 1. 2. 3. 4. Give your best effort. Be on time and prepared to work. Always have a pencil with you. Be courteous and respectful at all times. No putdowns! Stay on task throughout the class. Classroom Policy: The five P’s: Prompt, Prepared, Productive, Polite, and POSITIVE! Consequences: 1. Warning. 2. Phone call home. 3. Referral. Grades: Grades will be given every five weeks. Although a number grade will not be given on the report card, a “pass” or a “fail” will be assigned based on the students’ progress and effort in class. Assessment will be based on the students’ overall performance, class readiness, participation, and productivity. Homework: There will be no homework assigned in AIS; however, students will have regularly assigned homework given by their team math teacher. It is very important that students try every homework assignment and make corrections during their math class.
