MSF currently runs projects in the states of Bihar, Manipur, Maharashtra, Jammu & Kashmir, Chhattisgarh and Telangana. MSF India is one of 24 offices and operational centres in Europe, America, Asia and Australasia, pooling funding, expertise and staff for MSF field operations. Functional and Hierarchical Lines Hierarchically and functionally accountable to Laboratory Manager. Main responsibilities and tasks Responsible for the Set-up of the laboratory in the different MSF project sites Responsible for the packing and unpacking of materials & transportation in reference to laboratories. Responsible for performing any specified laboratory tests by following the prescribed procedures Page 1 of 3 Properly explain the patients how to collect stool and urine specimens. Register the patient in the register books specifying name, address, and tests to be performed. Receive blood, stool and urine samples and check that the labelling coincide with the information in the lab register book. Take blood samples following the sample collection protocols and safety precautions. Follow the sample flow in the laboratory (e.g. when to centrifuge or aliquot samples). Perform microscopic examinations (blood, urine, stool) & Proper discard of contaminated materials and separation of waste in the laboratory. Preparation of reagents and media as specified by Lab´s SOP´s. “Responsible for performing different laboratory tests (e.g. haematology, biochemistry, microbiology) To maintain organized a filing system with laboratory results, stock and other files as specified by Supervisor. Calculation of test results (e.g. ELISA) and registration of all laboratory results Responsible for making the request for the laboratory material and reagents on a weekly and monthly basis and obtaining the requisite approval from the Supervisor for the same Responsible for preparing laboratory supplies for field work; Responsible for providing assistance for the successful execution of the different MSF team meetings (lab team meetings, general team meetings); Responsible for serving as translator to the international medical team, when required; Responsible for assisting the supervisor in assessing or evaluating the laboratory facilities; Responsible for training MSF staff and community health workers to support laboratory activities in the field. Responsible for the monitoring the cold chain required for laboratory reagents and kits in the office and also in the clinic site. To assist project pharmacist in running of the Unit pharmacy, including weekly inventories and orders To assist in any other pharmacy duties as required, taking into consideration that duties as laboratory technician take priority if time is limited Others To perform any other tasks as required by the Supervisor To maintain a flexible approach and responds to the needs of the project even if outside of this job description. REQUIREMENTS Qualifications Degree/Diploma in medical laboratory support / pathology Work experience Minimum 1 year experience of working in rural areas with basic laboratory facilities Desirable experience with hospitals, clinics, healthcare centres or other NGOs Specific skills Ability to organize and prioritize workload & taking initiative when appropriate Mathematical ability for quantitative recording of results; Page 2 of 3 Good in written and spoken English; Thorough understanding of local languages Good understanding of result registration and report writing; Able to work independently as well as part of a team Good Punctuality and ability to act with responsibility Basic understanding of MS Office especially Word, Excel & PowerPoint Desirable skills Experience in microscopic examinations (e.g. stool, blood, urine) and microbiology.
