SOAS BULLETIN
(Volume 66, Issue 3). This special issue features a selection of essays which have
developed out of the Centre’s projects on 'Gender and Literature in Cross-Cultural
Contexts,' 'Genre Ideologies and Narrative Transformation,' 'Narrating and
Imaging the Nation,' 'Performance and Literature,' and 'Translations and
Translation Theories East and West.'
SOAS Literary Review
The Centre published a Special Issue with the SOAS Literary Review, Autumn 2004
(launched online in May 2005). This included papers by PhD students who have
presented papers at Centre workshops over the past four years from the ‘Genre
Ideologies and Narrative Transformation’ and ‘Performance and Literature’
projects.
Wasafiri
The Winter 2003 edition of Wasafiri (no. 40) was a Translation special issue, guestedited by Theo Hermans and Harish Trivedi (Delhi). 6 workshop conference papers;
other articles, interviews and reviews also drew on the three-year project.

Wasafiri
The Autumn 2002 edition of Wasafiri features an interview with Ama Ata Aidoo,
conducted by Nana Wilson-Tagoe and Kwadwo Osei-Nyame. Ama Ata Aidoo was
keynote speaker at the first workshop of the project.

A special issue of the journal Poetics which will contain approximately 6 papers from the
Social Context project and an introduction by Michel Hockx and George Paizis. (due out
in 2007)
A book publication based on the fourth workshop, The Global Literary Field, to be
published by Cambridge Scholars Press, edited by Anna Guttman, Michel Hockx and
George Paizis. (Contracts signed and camera ready manuscript due in July 2006).
The Tradition and the Modern project recently completed a book proposal, entitled
"Migratory Modernisms", arising from Workshop 2 (held in the State University of Rio,
and funded by CAPES, the Brazilian funding authority). In addition, the plan is for a
simultaneous publication of the volume with a UK/US publisher.
A proposal has been submitted to Paragraph for a special issue of that journal entitled
"What Price the Modern?" arising from workshops 3 and 4. Also arising from workshop
4, in conjunction with the network established between Cornell University and the OUP,
leaders have been working on the general theme of translation as a metaphor for
interdisciplinarity. Subsequent informal meetings and seminars have been held, with a
view to developing a book proposal drawing on the resources of that network and the
work of workshop 4.
A book proposal will be presented in early 2006 to the Classical Presences series at the
OUP, provisionally entitled "Temporality, Tradition, Translation: the Classic and the
Modern". Another meeting on this project is also planned with the CUP.
A special themed issue on ‘City and Literature’ for the journal, Criticism, Wayne State
University. (Spring 2006). This will contain six papers from the workshops of the City
and Literature project.
