Michael Bradbury was formerly Professor of Accounting at University of Auckland and now Professor at UNITEC Institute of Technology in Auckland. He has a chartered accounting background and consulting experience in share valuations and due diligence. Professor Bradbury’s interests are in the role of accounting information in measuring financial performance and value. His current research on financial instruments relates to his work on the Joint Working Group of Standard Setters. He has made several contributions so far to this field, including identification and testing of theoretical reasons as to why firms use derivative financial instruments, and his development of professional articles on the use of fair-value accounting for financial instruments. Professor Bradbury is a regular contributor to the professional journal - Chartered Accountants’ Journal of New Zealand. Academically, he has served the editorial board of Australian Accounting Review and as the journal editor for Pacific Accounting Review. He has published in Journal of Accounting Research, Accounting Review, Journal of Corporate Finance, Abacus and Accounting and Finance, amongst others. In 2001, he was awarded the ‘Outstanding Contribution to Practice Award’ by the Accounting Association of Australia and New Zealand (AAANZ). At the Accounting and Finance Association of Australia and New Zealand (AFAANZ) conference held in Perth, Australia in July 2002, Professor Bradbury was awarded a life membership, recognizing his academic achievements and contribution. Professor Bradbury is the second New Zealander ever to receive this honour.
