What Is the Function of Language?
Language appears to be a unique ability of humans. Have students discuss the
function of language in human societies. Have students especially examine the
possibility that language serves some unique role not found in other types of animal
communication.
Gender and Reading Disorders
Boys are over represented in the population of children with reading disorders. Have
students discuss whether differences in lateralization account for the greater amount
of language disability. Moreover, ask students to discuss whether boys have some
advantages due to the greater lateralization.
