Progressive Reforms
Students will identify the reforms and changes that came about during the
Progressive Era – 1870s – 1920.
In your group research what changes were made in the United States during the
Progressive Era (1870-1918) that made life better for ordinary people or that gave them
more power over their lives and over their leaders. Use the textbook (pages 673-688),
your DKMAH book and the following internet searches: Progressive Reforms,
Progressive Movement or The Progressives.
Create a list of changes and reforms that were made during the Progressive Era and
BRIEFLY explain how they changed the lives of Americans. Each group member must
have a copy of the list.
Using the computer, and in discussion with your group, create a PowerPoint presentation
detailing these changes and reforms and illustrating them.
Select THREE of the reforms or changes on your Power Point and teach the class about
them using the PowerPoint and any other materials you might like to use. A copy of the
PowerPoint must be in the appropriate ELP WORK folder on the Shared Drive under
Social Studies and Whitehead by presentation day
Time Frame: Thursday, Friday, Tuesday Presentations Wednesday and Thursday.
