Accepted on 3/13/13 Attendance Chris Robb, Chair Morgan Toledo, Director Jill Beaton, HACD Monty Richards, Director Preston Irwin, NRCS Meeting Called to Order at-4:05 p.m. Quorum Present Agenda/ approved Minutes/ 1/9/13 approved Treasurer Report/ approved Chairman’s Report/ Chairman had nothing to report on this month Committee Reports/ Paniolo Preservation Society-the first exhibit in partnership with MKSWCD, NRCS and PPS was held with the Cherry Blossom Festival, Feb. 2, 2013, while attendance was slow it was a good first time event Hale Wailani-NOAA has sent additional conditions that land owner must agree to for the project to move forward to contract, if land owner is okay with the proposed terms District is fine with the terms as well Fire Restoration Manual-Margaret & Jill participated in a phone conference with Carolyn Stewart of MCSI, Elizabeth Pickett of Hawaii Wildfire Organization & Kathy Chaston of NOAA regarding the Fire restoration Manual that has been in the works since 2011, NOAA feels best and quickest way to distribute funds is through a small business and would like to do it through MCSI, there would be funding for MKSWCD to do some demonstration products for the manual, Directors are fine with the project being done in this manner Waipio Valley- Bill for $2.2 million was introduce in the Hawaii State House of Representatives was introduced today by Rep. Mark Nakashima, unfortunately it did not pass , we will try again next year Cooperator Agreements/ Iolani Islander LLC- Director’s have concerns over property being currently submitted for subdivision review, person signing Cooperator Agreement is listed as agent for property, does agent have signing authority, Director’s have concerns about MKSWCD’s 67-1185 Mamalahoa Hwy., Suite H148, Kamuela, HI 96743 FAX 808-885-4420 808 -885-6602 .. .. .. .. .. Mauna Kea Soil & Water Conservation District resources not being put to best use for a property that might be subdivided and then sold , approval on Cooperator Agreement deferred NRCS/ see attached, written report only, Matt Wung of NRCS not at meeting Conservation Specialist Report/see attached, CS Jill Beaton presented a slide show on her trip highlights, including conferences (2) and visits to SWCD’s Old Business/ HACD Annual Meeting-draft agenda was discussed with Directors Forest Solutions Proposal-due to limited resources for both MKSWCD & Forest Solutions the project is shelved at this time Soils Workshop-April 18, 2013 date was selected, Kuhio Hale (DHHL Hall) in Waimea has been reserved, M. Wung of NRCS would like planning committee meeting sometime next week, NRCS Soil Scientist Amy Koch & Dr. Tamimi have been approached to speak at the workshop, there was a discussion about cover crop seeds and Chair C. Robb was agreeable to storing seeds at his farm if the District decided to bring in and sell cover crop seeds to area farmers, he has stored cover crop seed for a year previously and still had a 90% germination rate of the seed Cooperator of the Year-Clayson Stone, Peter Risley, & Yvonne & Jacinth DeLuz are nominated, will be voted on at next meeting Business Plan-Chair reminds Directors to please review previously distributed MKSWCD Objectives & Goals and have suggestions/comments for next meeting.
