WUSA Application Questions
Please note, the application questions are different for each type of applicant: (a) working with freshman students, (b)
working with transfer students, (c) working with 3+2 engineering students, (d) working with exchange students, and (e)
returning WUSAs (if you have previously served as a WUSA).
Be sure you are completing the correct essay questions. There are six essay questions. Please limit your responses to 200
words or less per question.
We suggest you respond to the essay questions in Word and paste your responses in the online application form.
Working with freshman students
1. Why do you want to be a WUSA and what do you wish to gain from the experience? What characteristics
(qualities, traits, experiences, etc.) make you a strong and unique applicant?
2. List your current activities and community involvement. Choose one. Why is this activity meaningful to you and
what have you gained from your participation?
3. What experience do you have as a role model or mentor?
4. What do new students need to know and do in order to be academically successful at Wash U during their first
year?
5. How would you create a positive, welcoming, and supportive environment for new students?
6. If you were invited to join the WUSA League, what superpower would you have and how would you use that
power to help your new students? What would your superhero name be?
Working with transfer students
1. Please describe your transfer experience. How and why will your experience as a transfer student make you a
good WUSA?
2. Why do you want to be a WUSA and what do you wish to gain from the experience? What characteristics

Returning WUSA (For those who have previously served as a WUSA)
1. What was the most meaningful part of your experience as a WUSA this year? Why?
2. Why do you want to be a WUSA for a second year? What will you gain from the WUSA experience a second
time?
3. What will new students and the First Year Center gain from you serving as a WUSA for a second year?
4. How would you evaluate your performance as a WUSA this year? What would you do differently next year?
5. What suggestions do you have to improve any FYC programs and/or the transition for new students?
6. As a member of the WUSA League, what superpower would you have and what would your superhero name be?
Returning WUSAs, Katharine Pei will contact your FYX, WUSA team, and your WUSA students for feedback about their
previous experience working with you.
