The Wimbledon Guild of Social Welfare Job Description Job Title: Based at: Reporting to: Responsible for : Hours: Project Manager – Second Time Around Guild House, 30-32 Worple Road, Wimbledon Head of Social Welfare ASC Driver and STA Driver 22.5 hours per week Background The Wimbledon Guild is one of the largest local charities in the country. Its wide-ranging services support people of all ages across Merton facing a variety of situations. The Guild strives to develop and improve these services and the Second Time Around project has grown accordingly, distributing donated furniture and white goods to clients in need in the community. It includes the collection and distribution of donations at Harvest Festival and Christmas time. The project manager co-ordinates the day-to-day running of the STA project. Responsibilities Client Responsibilities Provide professional and courteous service as the first point of contact for clients donating and applying for goods Advise clients on whether or not goods can be taken and offering alternative solutions Provide clients with safe, good quality household items and furniture Work with external organisations, such as Merton social services, the Vine and AV Corporation to deliver solutions to clients Build relationships with local schools and other community organisations e.g. Christian Care, The Vine Project, CAP Present and promote the Wimbledon Guild to schools and other organisations, with particular regard to Christmas collections and Harvest Festival collections Department Responsibilities Manage the schedule for collection and delivery of donated goods for the Second Time Around project Work within the Social Welfare team and contribute to the Welfare Casework meetings Support Finance Manager in the administration of the vehicle fleet, including STA van and ASC Citroen for taxation, servicing and blue badge permits Maintain a positive relationship with the Wimbledon Guild Charity Shop (in Mitcham) Keep records pertaining to STA furniture deliveries and beneficiaries referred via the welfare committee Provide to the Senior Management Team on going data on quantities of furniture re-used through the STA project (using Furniture Reuse Network figures) Project Manager – Second Time Around April 2012 Maintain in a good state of repair the storage facility at Guild House Keep abreast of current affairs in the third sector, in particular social care/community issues Management Responsibilities Manage a small team comprising one part-time driver and one full-time ASC driver. With support from Head of Social Welfare, manage volunteers, including offering support, appraisal and training where appropriate Provide feedback and support to team at an individual level both informally and through regular one-to-one meetings Undertake an annual appraisal with each member of line-managed staff Keep staff abreast of training opportunities and support the development of staff Financial Responsibilities Be mindful of and adhere to the Guild’s financial policies Ensure cost savings are sought, without compromising standards of service Provide input into STA budget allocation as part of Social Welfare department budget Deliver the STA service within allocated budget Organisation Responsibilities Ensure that equality of access and opportunity apply to the Guild’s clients and volunteers Work as part of the team and contribute to the development of the Services within the Guild. Knowledge, Skill and Experience Required Experience of managing a small team Strong IT skills – MS Office, including Word, Outlook, Excel and Access Excellent administrative and organisational skills Understanding of social care sector Experience of developing and maintaining client relationships Ability to work with sensitive data and confidential information Non-judgmental approach in dealing with clients An interest in the local community Experience in setting and managing a project budget Ability to manage conflicting priorities.
