Apply for the Next Chapter Award 2016
Deadline: Wednesday 4 November 2015, midday.

What to include on your completed application form (below):

Your personal details.

A list of your writing achievements to date. (Maximum length: 1 page of A4.)

A personal statement telling us how the Next Chapter Award would benefit your
development as a writer and details of the project you would work on during the award.
(Word limit: 800 words.)

A sample of your writing. This can include short stories or an extract from a longer piece of
work. (Word limit: 2,500 words or 85 lines of poetry.)

If your sample is an extract from a longer work, please include a synopsis. Poets should
include a brief commentary about their proposed collection. (Word limit: 500 words.)
How to format your application:

Font: All text should be font Arial, size 12, including your personal statement and your
writing achievements.

Writing sample: Your writing sample and synopsis should be:
 Double line spaced;
 Copied and pasted into the blank pages at the end of this form.

Links to websites: Your application must not include hyperlinks.
How to submit your application:


Subject line: ‘Next Chapter Award: Your Name’.

Deadline: Wednesday 4th November 2015, midday. Applications received after the
deadline will not be considered.

Please send one email with this form attached as a single word-processed document (file
name ending in .doc, .docx, .rtf). We cannot accept .pdf files or multiple documents.

Writing achievements (maximum length: 1 page)
Examples: courses, workshops, mentoring, publications or productions, works completed and in
progress, any relevant awards, prizes or bursaries, events, festivals and readings.
Please prioritise your most recent, relevant writing achievements.

Personal statement (word limit: 800 words)
Please tell us why you should be considered for the Next Chapter Award. Please explain why you
will benefit from mentoring and a writers’ retreat. Please also give details of the project you would
work on during the award.

pages below, taking as many pages as necessary within the word count.
